How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? Understanding that the value of the art isn’t measured by the complexity of the techniques was new to students. The art’s message being of supreme importance intrigued them.
We are continuing this kit into term 4 due to lockdown interruptions.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are going to explore wider examples of messages in the art realms. Then students will identify a key message that they want to portray and then explore a range of mediums to express their own messages.
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? The art and seeing the people explain their art in the videos was great. I think a bit more detail in the 'foundation' knowledge would have been nice. Teaching Year 6, my focus was on how we treat others and creating empathy. We did not go into great dept

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? I think this was one of the key understandings that most of the class gained from this unit.
My kit was for Term 3. We had lockdown which made it rather tricky to work through all the tasks in as much depth as they required. Putting together the finished art and photocopying their 'special documents' was very time consuming! I am hoping we can send back the stamps to be reused by future classes??

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? Once we discussed what the art and symbols might mean, they were able to make a connection of what was important to them, and how we are all connected in some way. Underneath their art pieces they decided to put photos of what was most important to them,
Sorry for the late feedback with the Kotahitangi Kit. The tamariki thoroughly enjoyed completing the class poem, individual poems and artwork. I was hoping to forward some pictures, but due to lockdown I haven't been able to put the display up on the wall yet to show you. So I thought I would share the poem that my year 4 class have created. I know bad things happen, but we need to stop fighting Hit the bullies with kindness We can stop the bullying Instead of being mean, stop and be kind That is what everyone needs to work on Be kind to teachers and strangers Be nice to your mate Be nice to your sister and brother Be kind to others Be awesome to everyone no matter what ethnicity they are Be kind to the world This will make the world a better place In Term 4, I hope to send some photos through of our display as the tamariki have put lots of work into it. It was a very worthwhile kit, that brought a lot of discussion on how we treat each other. Thank you so much.

How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? We have a strong culture of inclusion and a variety of ethnic backgrounds within our classroom including 2 orphans from India, so all the students enjoyed creating messages of acceptance, we are all different and that gives us variety and differences to c

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? With the simplification of the art creation phase the students enjoyed stating the reasons for their choices and representations in their artworks. They loved the making and experimenting component. Loved playing with the process of printing.
Loved the Kind poems and variety of info graphics that were created by the students and the individual creation of word art poems that could either take a negative slant or a positive slant, due to the selection of your words. We have often talked about either viewing a situation as glass half full or half empty throughout the year so this reinforced this. The art making part was very complex for my age group and understanding symbols and representations. We discovered this from our senior class completing the unit first so I simplified it down to choosing colours to represent something with the symbol.

The students really enjoyed this unit especially the art - it was great how it was so individualised out but yet all the same - it helps the students show their own personalities- they found the found poems difficult but we did try doing this in lockdown

How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? The kit allowed us to explore and discuss issues of racism. Unfortunately my class didn't get to complete the stamping, but the poetry was thoroughly enjoyed. The found poem allowed even my reluctant writers to create something they were really proud of.
