What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Poetry, art, Māori values, unity, racism.
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? It was okay. I feel that perhaps some of the resources and ideas were a bit complex for my learners.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? Some of my higher level learners understood but it was a little complex for some of my students.
As a teacher I enjoyed the kit and thought there were some really great resources and material in the box. Unsure if it was suitable for my learners. Not sure if a lot of them actually "got it" other than a few of my higher level learners. They really enjoyed printing with the stamps. I feel that if we didn't have the big break with covid we would have been able to explore some of the big ideas a bit more.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? I think it made my kids think about why people create art and the different ways people use creative outlets such as art to communicate their thoughts, feelings, ideas and perspectives on how they see the world.
The art created from this was a great talking point for my kids during thier student led conferences and talking about what they had been learning with their parents. From this I could see that they had a great awareness and understanding of what racism looks and sounds like.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have explored other examples of racism in New Zealand and around the world such as the dawn raids, Apartheid and the Springbok Tour in the early 1980's, the Bastion Point protests, and the invasion of Parihaka settlement to name a few. It also means th
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? I think the most meaningful task for the learners was the Be Kind Poem. It really made them think about the who their choices impact and that Respect isn't just a one off.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? The students learnt about hidden meanings and messages and how these are interpreted by others. When completing the strips for the Be Kind Poem, the students decorated these with symbols and designs they thought were relevant to the message being portraye
The kit was okay. We really enjoyed 'Vaughan's Be Kind Poem' task and found this part really successful. We even managed to get ours translated into Te Reo Maori and the children decorated the strips. When we went to continue to the next task 'Stephanie's Letter', we found that the online resources weren't available. We were able to read the letter, but this held us up a bit and we lost momentum. Sybille's artwork went well.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We would like to explore some other artists in the exhibition. Many of our tamariki had not heard of an art exhibition or even knew what that meant. Just talking about that concept, creating our own pieces and now putting them together as an 'exhibition'
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? Understanding the artists and their drive was important, We watched and rewatched their video clips listening to their 'why.' It was important that we discussed what Sybille was representing with the circle and line. Stephanie's letter was confronting and

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? It was about our country, real events that happened and the kōrero from the artists themselves all pieced together well to help the students see that each piece was created with/for a purpose.
This kit was delivered in a class of Year 5/6 akonga. Knowing that the exhibition was in our rohe was the perfect hook in for our tamariki! Kotahitanga was a great overarching principle that we continuously connected back too throughout the entire unit. The importance of inclusiveness through a lens of racism provided a whole new valuable learning experience.

Kia ora, I was unable to use this school kit resource, as the proposal to establish a Y7/8 class in term 2 that would support students with significant learning needs was declined by school stakeholders. My apologies for not engaging in the online support for this school kit. I still have the schoolkit, unopened if you would like me to return it to you. The school planning to create a 'neurodiverse' class for Y7/8 students in 2022, so I am hopeful we can utilise your service next year. Again my apologies for not engaging in the programme this year. Kind regards, Naomi Tovio.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Teaching concepts or themes through the use of art can be a powerful way to express ideas.
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? The timing of this unit was great, as we were going through parts of this unit during lockdown. We have also covered aspects of racism in New Zealand as part of our inquiry at the start of the year. This made the topic really relatable to the students. We

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? They really enjoyed the stamps, so looking at how we can use them again but in different ways. Some had never used stamps in art before!
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? A very thought provoking kit. I had a lot of in-depth conversations with my students and we were able to reflect on our own experiences and experiences of others. How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? I think this has made some of the students more aware that art can have a purpose other than just being beautiful or fun to make.
A very thought provoking kit. I had a lot of in-depth conversations with my students and we were able to reflect on our own experiences and experiences of others. As I teach SEN, I needed to adjust it a bit to suit their needs, but they all got a lot out of it. Another phenomenal recourse, School Kit, I'm very appreciative of everyone's efforts!
