What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Composing a lament (moteatea) for our kapa haka group using the idea of Vaughan's Kia Atawhai Poem. Creating art where we celebrate how there is no right or wrong, and that each piece - even if created by an identical stamp - will look different! A break
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? Art in our classroom has a slower and more rhythmic pace than most of our other learning areas. We afforded the creative process lots of time, and created an enjoyable atmosphere in the class. This allowed for a sense of togetherness while we were all bus

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? It certainly opened their eyes as to what can be labelled "art" and what the purpose of art can be. It helped them step away from viewing art as something pretty, masteful, hard to create and expensive. It made many of them realize that they can create th
Our Yr 5/6 class engaged eagerly with the Kotahitanga Kit. They displayed a level of maturity that I didn't expect - especially when creating their "found poems". Vaughn's Kia atawhai poem was embraced and explored and even incorporated in some of our kapa haka performances! Racism, differences, tolerance, being a rainbow in someone else's cloud were all openly and honestly discussed and explored. Our class is two thirds boys and I enjoyed seeing the boys engage meaningfully, especially in the creative processes and art. I believe my students truly enjoyed the freedom to explore creative processes, they were surprised by the outcomes of their creative efforts & experiments and they loved processing their own thoughts and viewpoints about key issues and concepts. BRAVO SchoolKit Squad! This rates as one of the most successful kits I've ever done with a class.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? Students always thrive when given a purpose or a meaningful goal. They were able to understand that this kit was being used around NZ and could see how one poem or stamp was able to create waves throughout the country in a meaningful way.
The students really enjoyed creating their own version of Vaughn's poem. Kia Atawhai struck a chord with them and they were able to really run with that concept and used different locations to expand on different ways to be kind. This was an awesome Kit that will be used again with future classes.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? it was a useful discussion about how they can use their own art and look at others art differently.
My students enjoyed this project, and certainly grew in their awareness of inclusivity on many levels as a result. The collaborative nature of the activities meant that those less than deep thinkers were prodded to go a bit deeper and the final poem was quite stunning.
