What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are working on building collaborative art pieces to share our class story. Who we are as a class or school.
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? We have a class full of creatives! They loved exploring ideas and the theme linked with the Read To themes we were exploring around Apartheid and segregation. Many speech topics arose from the content.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? The students developed more of an idea of how art can tell a story and how even if they don't see themselves as 'artists' their symbols and pictures can tell a story.
This kit had a great range of resources to use with the class and was really interesting visually. The children engaged in the art and the messages within it.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Hopefully the simplicity and beauty of poetry, just how they can be kind to others. They asked me to create an "Act of Kindness" box in our class which we now use weekly to encourage others to do Random Acts for people!
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? The art of the poetry was fantastic. It encouraged my class to think about who they were kind to and challenge them to extend this to people of different beliefs, cultures and backgrounds. It caused some fab discussions.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? Unfortunately we did not get to creating the art piece, so unable to comment on this.
The idea of this kit is beautiful. My class very much enjoyed doing the poetry, and attempting to do the lovely art as a part of the Kotahitanga project. However, I found the website very confusing to use. Each time I went to view a resource to help me, or to go to the next step, many said "Coming soon". This was really difficult and meant, in the end, I had to stop doing the kit as the end of our Term 2 was extremely busy. Hopefully the people using in Term 3 have more luck as myself and my colleagues all found this hard to complete.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I would very much prefer to have a Teacher's Guide as a single PDF with all links available from the outset. The design of the website where multiple clicks were required to reveal next steps was quite time consuming.
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? I found the poetry to be more effective.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? Again, I devoted more time to poetry.
I particularly enjoyed the repetitiveness of the poem. The simple ideas prompted some great poetry from my class.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? My class was keen to do more print work
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? The found poem was great but I did need to pair my younger learners with an older class

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? I think the concepts were beyond my Year3/4 class
The kit itself was great. However the communication and information about the implementation of the lessons was difficult to follow

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Ongoing discussions around racism bought about by students, discussion among students about some behaviour at school that isn't ok, all add to the learning from this kit.
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? I wasn't sure the students got this part but one morning a parent came in and was asking their child about their print. She thought it was a 10 (we are room 10). Her son explained that it was about racism and the circle represented unity.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? I didn't think they got it to begin with but with us going back to the over arching idea through the original exhibition, Vaughans poem, the letter and the video of Sybille they seemed to get the message
I found the Kit was fairly self-explanatory and the links from the teachers guide helpful for the most part. I had intended for this kit to be used by a reliever who was in my class for week 2 of the term but as parts of the kit (stamps) and digitally were still not available I was not able to do this. This meant I used it in the last 2 weeks of Term 2. Our exhibition is up in the hall and 2 students have talked about it in assembly. As a teacher in a decile 4 it was a big ask to expect students to bring in items to be photocopied for their prints, so after very little response we found two types of paper squirreled away in the resource room and used that plus a photocopy of the students favourite book cover or pages from a book and the school kit postcard. I will share photos of the exhibition once I can get back into school - taking photos was on my to do list before lockdown. As a class we had some good discussions around racism and this discussion seems to be ongoing with different students bringing it up during the day. I will say that I found the new school kit website hard to navigate. Some days I could find exactly the part I was looking for, other days I couldn't find what I had been looking at the night before. It was very frustrating. I know I am the only teacher at our school that completed the kit fully (out of a team of 6). Others did different parts - predominantly the poems. It was quite a big additional load on top of our current inquiry focus especially the framing of 4 pieces per child. But I must say the exhibition looks amazing and the students are very proud of what they have done. We also managed some extra prints that were collected for the exhibition. As all our work was already framed and on exhibition we found a range of gift wrapping paper and let the children choose colours to match.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Definitely the continuation of using art in the class to explore important concepts
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? As I have year 3/4, I believe having art as a foundation for exploring these weighted topics enabled firstly a deeper understanding, but also an opportunity for the students to get involved without feeling apprehensive or confused.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? As our inquiry this term is on The Arts and culture, it was a great lead in on some of the basic ideas, and being able to understand that art is for a purpose - no matter if it is big or small.
Hi there! What a fabulous kit this was! My students really enjoyed the different tasks, and LOVED the stamps! My only feedforward comment would be possibly having a few more details in the Teacher Guide, as there were a few activities where some more specific guidelines/instructions could have been useful! Thanks so much.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? New fun ways to talk about social issues and doing cross-curricula projects.
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? It gave us a really good point to start talking about racism and other issues in class.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? It gave them a context for the art. It was doing engaging in art with a wider purpose, rather than art for art's sake.
It was a good kit. I found that I was not too sure on what to do with the stamps. I kind of improvised. The new-found word poem was really good. Good art project, good literacy activity and we produced some incredible displays.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We still have our exhibition up in our ILE. This term our concept is about how the Pope calls us to understand we are global brothers and sisters. We believe this is a nice springboard from what we covered last term with this kit.
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? We didn't really take this down the road of racism so much. Rather we took it down the road of knowing our own individuality and welcoming diversity and being inclusive.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? We were able to make great use of the stamp. Student all used the same image but were able to explore their individuality through colour. They chose colours that best expressed who they were as a person - this was through links to their passions, hobbies
As a teacher in an ILE, our team of four teachers and 105 students enoyed using this kit in Term 2. We used it to create an exhibition that highlighted who we are as indivisuals. We linked it to our concept that we need to learn about ourselves and know our own stories and when we are able to share about oursevles, we are then in a better place to learn about and accept others. God made us all unique and we need to celebrate the diversity in our schools and communities.
