“Students were engaged with the content and enjoyed researching the story we used. I found the new delivery model less easy compared to a PDF with links. Haven’t yet found out how to use the paper bag resources effectively or how to link them to the stories. The site is harder to navigate in that respect but no doubt using it more it will help with that.”

“My students really enjoyed wondering about what they could see in the postcards. One 11 year said it's like being detectives. We spent some time at our local museum too and made connections to pictures, artifacts and events.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I liked the resources that I previously found hard to access. Having things in one place made it easy to use.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We already explore a lot of our local histories but the online exploring aspect really hooked some kids as it could be independent investigation.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? My biggest fear was that I wouldn't have enough resources to teach my students. Now I can teach local history confidently and expand my knowledge of Aoteroa's history.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? The kids led the learning in the end and were telling other students what they found out. This resource works great.

“The pack gives information for different areas around NZ. We were trying to source information about our local area and this was perfect. We also have students who come from a range of Iwi around NZ and they were able to learn the history of where they were from. It would be great if more resources were added as more become available to build on this amazing resource.”

Māori history is oral and should be told, without telling they cannot be written. If they were not created in collaboration with iwi I would be using them

“These teaching tools are incredible for teaching bites of ANZH in a way that is accessible for our tamariki. The ideas and concepts unpacked are big, and the tamariki really get it, and get into the ako journey. They align beautifully with my use of dramatic inquiry to teach ANZH and support this pedagogy beautifully. I can dip in and out of this kit at any time.”
