“I used this school kit with my Year 10 Social Studies class. I chose the Mana Rangatiratanga card because this was relevant to the NZ Land Wars topic we are doing at the moment. I felt even within that one card there was so much to unpack: which is good but also hard for my students to get their heads around.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? These sorts of resources are essential in giving the depth and breadth of information that would be time consuming to find. The videos and links all came together to deepen the discourse that was had even with the year 4 students.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We have not exhausted the use of this kit as we had many students struck down with illness and a rotation of other activities that has prolonged the use of the kit.

“We are continuing to use this kit and will do so until the end of the year. The students were very inspired and were amazed that they were able to make links to what they had learned when they went on outings to museums, recalling many aspects. They enjoyed making timelines and were engrossed in the archival footage, especially when they learned about the Rainbow Warrior and the SpringBok tour as these they related to most (especially the rugby players). To this day they are still recalling information I thought would be forgotten!”
