“Incredible resource, with lots of ways to use it. Integrated with Literacy. Kids loved the artefacts and the photos were amazing. Difficult for some of the class and lots of scaffolding was needed.”

“I am yet to use the resource as NZ histories are our focus for Term Four. However, I have begun to unpack and look at how I would use the resources. The resource will be very exciting for tamariki and they are so well made and high quality.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Enormously so. I had found the understand, know, do quite confusing. But the ANZH resource kit has shown how these elements can be easily integrated into a ANZH lesson or unit.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? There are so many stories within our local area that I am personally interested in discovering and partnering along side our local community. I like the use of artefacts to tell a story, or for a story to be discovered! What this kit has shown me is that historical artefacts are actually publicly accessible if you know where to look.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? Knowing that such toanga was gifted to our learning community through the resource kit was significant. Ultimately, someones stories is theirs (or their whānau or community) along and we really don't have a right to it. It's great to know that partnerships of collaboration were at the centre of the development of the kit resource.

“Our class has thoroughly enjoyed exploring local and national histories through the ANZH kit offered by School Kit. As a teacher, it is helpful to have a "ready to go" resource to explore ANZH. My ākonga have enjoyed exploring stories through the artefacts within the kit and online resource. We are only at the beginning of our journey of learning about the various stories offered through this kit. My class is excited to explore more national stories as we work through the kit over the remainder of the year.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It has given me the resources and tools to allow students to look into multiple events or times in our history rather than being limited to what I know or what I have time to learn about so that I can support them to access accurate information.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It has given us the chance to explore the history of wider New Zealand and not just our own local area which we have covered quite well already. It is also helping the students make connections between what they already know about their own local area and things that have happened in other areas across NZ.
