How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? This sounds good in theory, but it would take a lot of time & research to do...maybe we could do this as a whole staff at a TOD.

Knowing these stories were developed with iwi/whanau/community is important as it is important for the students to understand that this happened and also how this helped to shape history.

“What a resource! This was used by our Year 7 & 8 class and the stories and conversations that stemmed from this resource allowed whakawhanaungatanga to occur. There were connections made between our tamariki and their whanau. To have our tamariki asking when we could look at another story because they were engaged was impressive. All schools should have access to this resource to support the new Aotearoa Histories curriculum.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It was a unique way to deliver content and helped our tauira connect to the stories on an intimate level. Holding the resources helps with this as well.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? There are so many cities and stories to explore. students can also explore places where they come from or lived previously.

“This kit is sooooooo cool and my class was just fascinated by it. We opened it together and had a look at all the photos and pieces that were in it. The cards were great conversation starters and we learnt a lot and used our knowledge and research skills to locate the places across NZ. The student website is also well done and easy for kids to follow. I have used A LOT of School Kits over the years and this has to be one of my favourite kits of all time.”

“At our kura we have been focusing on Aotearoa NZ Histories for inquiry for a term. Certain parts of the pack were helpful, especially the online resources. The physical images, while great, were not super helpful at a Year 7/8 level. Some students were interested in learning more about the stories that were in the pack, and visually I as a teacher found the images and resources beautiful.”
