I've completed the justice unit. It was great learning about some history that I was not aware and that was local to me and students. The tasks and unit as a whole was quite long and detailed and in the busy intermediate schedule I found the a long time it took to move through each task/lesson.

The Aotearoa NZ Histories Something Happened Here kit has been a great tool for me to use. It has provided a number of resources, as well as guided activities that I have been able to use with my students. The only downside that I have found is that some of my students do not have devices and I do not have enough devices to share with them as senior students get priority. Perhaps the use of my paper and digital resources for those who do not have access to it would be great.

I am loving the independent nature of the kit and how it takes the students on a journey of discovery. Some of the tasks may need some guidance e.g. track the route of the protest march. Examples could be: Find or create a map of the North Island and draw or mark the main roads and towns the protest went through. I've had to make this explicit to my students so that they are completing the tasks appropriately, otherwise they tend to just look at a map and then move on to the next task. I have made my students record their learning on a google slide with main headings so that they are able to present their new learning to others as well as let me know that a) they are participating in all tasks and b) they are reading the information correctly and c) I can assess their ability to record, retain, explain, present their learning. I initially found it difficult to start this because I couldn't find a plan anywhere. It wasn't entirely clear where and how to start, but eventually I got there. All kaupapa are interesting and thought provoking and have some wonderful resources to support the history and content of the kaupapa. I'm a little dissapointed about the areas that are still in progress, because 80% of my classroom wanted to look at these areas in particular. We are a Level Maori immersion classroom and the Maori histories in particular are interesting to us. We are a little disappointed as well that we can access this resource in te reo Maori. We are however enjoying learning more about our country and history and would recommend this to all kaiako!!

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? This has improved my confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum and I would definitely use this kit again.
How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes - I like the way one word was chosen for the title of the postcard to capture the significance of the story. I would do the same for a local historical story or moment.

This kit was excellent and engaging. The postcards were a great hook-in for learners and the physical clues that came with each postcard and story were also great conversation starters and sparked critical thinking. I appreciated the way a wide range of social issues and moments of historical significance were covered.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? This gives me lots of confidence. Along with the students I am finding it really exciting to explore as well. We are learning side by side.
How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes we could easily use this model. Ngai Tahu has so much already online that we can learn about. This kit is giving the students skills to look into other areas such as Papers Past and the National Library.

I was overwhelmed when I first received the kit because of the sheer volume of information that was involved. However, once we figured out how it worked, we got so excited. As a class, we spend time every single day looking at this resource on the big screen. I control the computer, but the students guide me as to what they want to research. The students have asked if they can create a museum to display the learning they have done. Next term we are going to partner up with our senior class and between both classes, they will research an area of interest and showcase it in the museum. Having the kit has helped to inspire the students to research the 'something happened here' website. Thank you so much for creating this kit, we love it!

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It showed how wide a variety of stories could be included when teaching about ANZ histories.
How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It is very motivating and yes I will consider using this model but I also think that it would be very time consuming putting together all the resources for one unit, so what I would do would not be as good as this kit.

This has been an amazing resource. I have been surprised by the variety of sources of information that have been included. It certainly has helped in convincing students that there are more sources than Wikipedia. I used the resource with my Year 10 class, who I think was quite surprised by the variety of topics that they collectively covered. The physical resources with the kit were exceptional. I have already recommended the kit to teachers from other schools.
