How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? This gives me lots of confidence. Along with the students I am finding it really exciting to explore as well. We are learning side by side.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes we could easily use this model. Ngai Tahu has so much already online that we can learn about. This kit is giving the students skills to look into other areas such as Papers Past and the National Library.

“I was overwhelmed when I first received the kit because of the sheer volume of information that was involved. However, once we figured out how it worked, we got so excited. As a class, we spend time every single day looking at this resource on the big screen. I control the computer, but the students guide me as to what they want to research. The students have asked if they can create a museum to display the learning they have done. Next term we are going to partner up with our senior class and between both classes, they will research an area of interest and showcase it in the museum. Having the kit has helped to inspire the students to research the 'something happened here' website. Thank you so much for creating this kit, we love it!”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It showed how wide a variety of stories could be included when teaching about ANZ histories.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It is very motivating and yes I will consider using this model but I also think that it would be very time consuming putting together all the resources for one unit, so what I would do would not be as good as this kit.

“This has been an amazing resource. I have been surprised by the variety of sources of information that have been included. It certainly has helped in convincing students that there are more sources than Wikipedia. I used the resource with my Year 10 class, who I think was quite surprised by the variety of topics that they collectively covered. The physical resources with the kit were exceptional. I have already recommended the kit to teachers from other schools.”

“This kit has been great to support our senior school teachers with using and teaching from the new Aotearoa NZ History Curriculum. The students have really enjoyed looking into the history of our own local area. The website is easy to use and has some excellent information. Comments from students - fun to learn history about places we know, it is fun solving the mystery, love discovering what happened, interesting to find out about what happened to Maori and their land, gave me a new perspective.”

“The content was amazing and will be revisited many times. The activities were great and engaging for students. It was a bit difficult to navigate the teachers' page but I eventually worked it out. The breadth and depth of the reading material was incredible. The use of videos was also excellent. I highly recommend this unit of work to other educators. Thank you for your incredible work!”

“We have spent a lot of time as a school focused on Tamsin Hanley's Aotearoa Histories books and this unit complemented what we have been looking at. We found it a very effective way to share a variety of stories around Aoetaroa. We started off by working through one together as a class, then worked collaboratively in pairs with their own postcard for each pair.”
