How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes we already did a bit of local history and it would be cool to make resources similar to these ones, it could even be a project for the higher level students.

“I have a year 3 & 4 class and was prepared for the fact that it might be a little hard for them. All kids loved looking at the resources and talking about them and sharing their own experiences but only my more able students were able to get a deeper level of understanding. I still think the less able ones benefited from the exposure though and it was a fantastic idea and kit of items.”

“I had already begun to develop a plan for class learning in the Histories curriculum and was supported by one of the SchoolKit team to add depth to this using the kit. We were able to find different elements on the kit's 'wheel' to complement the aspects I had planned to follow. The supporting resources really increased my own knowledge of our histories and I felt that I was better equipped to facilitate this with my students. I also appreciated other resources, such as the links to the curriculum pages - helping to develop my understanding of the A NZ H curriculum. I believe this is a kit I could use multiple times as there is such a wealth of content.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? For our colonial history - yes absolutely. We are currently working with iwi in regards to Māori history.

“I am working through stories with 2 of my literacy groups. I am seeing interest and engagement as they explore and learn about Aotearoa before they were born. They are exploring the links independently and then we are engaging in thoughtful discussion about the content. It is really awesome to hear their thoughts and understanding. Their engagement is a delight!”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It has greatly improved! I have a large range on stories across time at my fingertips, whereas before i struggle to find information and to know what questions to ask.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? This model is usable for teachers. It helps to give you starting points, historical events, and locations. The pepeha for each place also connects with our new school pepeha so that is great too.

“This kit is a wonderful resource and works with lessons easily. The resources are meaningful and engaging. Students enjoy trying to figure out the pepeha for each place. The student-facing website is incredible and I cannot recommend it enough.”
