How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Gave me a better understanding of events that had happened. As a class we took a road trip around local historical buildings, areas and the local cemetery to get a better understanding of our local area and what changes had happened.

“A fantastic interactive resource that gave the children a real sense of thinking like a historian. There was a vast range of stories that covered all areas of New Zealand, including areas specific to our learners. Children thoroughly loved the challenge of trying to locate the area from the pepeha. There was a high level of excitement from the children being able to follow their own research and see artifacts from the past.”

“Fantastic resource, very well put together. For my year 6&7 class it took alot of modelling to learn how to use the resources as they found all of the writing quite overwhelming. The students worked in pairs to research their postcard and really enjoyed working out what clues were allocated to their story.”

“I have enjoyed using this resource with my class. School Kit has provided an amazing top-quality resource that I would be able to use again and again. The hard copy resource, along with the interactive online side of it is clear and easy to understand. I started as a whole class and then broke the students into small groups, using the same card and the differentiated tasks. I enjoyed learning about these stories of New Zealand, opening my eyes to new places and events that I didn't know about myself.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I liked using this model. I would like to try and include making the photos as part of the process for students and getting them to think about what history they might like to learn more about

Having gained more knowledge of our history as well as learning new stories, I now feel much more confident teaching NZ History. I will use this box lots in the future to support my teaching around the NZ histories curriculum.

“This box was great, student engagement was high and everyone loved learning new stories about real-life people. They thought it was great that they didn't have to learn about the same stories year after year anymore. The materials provided were good quality and will last me through the next few years of teaching. I found the website hard to navigate at first but found the teacher portal a great help when trying to figure it out.”

“We have only started using the Aotearoa NZ Histories kit this term and are focussing on the Protest story with our Year 7 & 8s. So far it has been great as the children have been able to make links to to some pictures books they have read and to some podcasts that we are listening to.”

“The student website was really easy to use. The teacher instructions were also step by step and helped to simplify the process. I would love to see how other classes have celebrated their learning. We are currently compiling tasks on google slides so we can share with the class. The actual learning has been fascinating- so many interesting stories. Very engaging and we all enjoyed becoming 'google dectectives'. I haven't used the artifacts with my class yet but hope to use them next week to match up to the stories and tasks.”
