I saw posts online from schools that used this kit at their local beach. Looked great with many possibilities for integration in the classroom.

My kids loved this kit! They loved receiving messages about their turtle and thinking about what the turtle was doing and where she might be going. They were very motivated to create drawings and artwork about their turtle. It was also good for them to think about ways they could help the turtle to stay safe such as making sure they picked up all their rubbish at school and when they were out and about with their families.

Loved the bags and the gloves again - so motivating for collecting rubbish in our gully. I didnt do the track the turtle part as many of my young students have no idea or can relate to where america is. Is it possible to track turtles in the pacific? Otherwise loved all the resources - you guys rock. Some of them we ran out of time for but they were still an aweosme lesson to plan for.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The rubbish collection - able to see cause and effect, be kaitiaki / guardians of the environment. Loved the gloves and the specific rubbish bags as well as sorting the rubbish. Also loved tracking the sea turtles, real life / real time, good way to include technology for younger students.

How has this kit impacted your class culture toward whenua ora (land wellness) and sustainability? They have developed a better understanding on how a piece of rubbish dropped on our school field, can be picked up by wind, end up in a gutter, get moved down a drain, and end up in the ocean - an animals habitat. A simple example made such a big impact to them and the importance of putting rubbish in the bin.

This integrated well into our Inquiry topic - Habitats - How does a habitat ensure an animal survives and thrives? There was some great ideas and inspiration in here, particularly tracking the turtle. The class absolutely loved this, right from the start they were excited to receive mail! We were lucky to find a turtle that had been released that very day (Moana). The rubbish collection was a great way for tamariki to understand cause and effect, even though we didn't clean a beach area, we have big drains that lead to the beach. They were very proud of their rubbish clean up and were quite shocked by how much and what we were able to find.

My class loved tracking a turtle so much we are still tracking it! They also enjoyed the beach clean up and sorting rubbish we collected. The ONLY improvement I suggest is to include TWO puzzle turlte art sheets because at this age there is always ONE that loses a piece. See attached photo! also there is a missing piece from the art turtle. We also liked doing a siapo turtle art as you can see. We did a lot of learning about turtles and their life in the sea and how they reproduce.
