This was a really good kit. The class were all really engaged in the learning opportunities and couldn't wait to see where our turtle was and also to recieve the text messages from the Sea Cleaners. They learnt a lot about sea turtles and it gave them a lot of motivation for writing. The rubbish clean up was very successful and encouraged a lot of great discussion about recycling and where our rubbish goes.

What a great kit to teach younger kids (6 and 7 year olds) about the importance of cleaning up our environments and putting their own rubbish in the appropriate place. Unfortunately we received this kit a term after we thought we would have got it so we were not able to put as much time into as it needed.

Our children just loved this idea and we did some amazing work following our turtle and notes from the sea cleaners. The kit was very helpful and our clean up was also done with enthusium and energy from our children at age only 6 and 7 years old. Our families were amazed at the knowledge the children took home with them. The only thing that let the kit down was not being able to provide our class with a decent size map of where the turtles are located and it took a lot of wasted time trying to enlarge a map of the area in relation to the little turtle cut outs.

Our class loved the selection of activities to do within this kit. We tracked a turtle, thought about what its life would be like in order to create diary entries and looked after our local park by collecting rubbish. They enjoyed the art and ongoing conversations around looking after our environment.

The school kit had such an impact on my all Year 3 classroom. What I thought would be a couple of weeks worth of mahi ended up being the marjority of Term 3 worth of engagement. We spent some weeks on the concept of rubbish after our rubbish collection, learning about all the different types of plastic and what we can and can't recycle. We created Don't Litter posters. My class became the school rubbish rangers at lunchtimes. Choosing to pick up rubbish rather than play after learning where our rubbish goes if we litter. We then tracked our Turtle Bella through the Bahamas for 10 days. We wrote her tracks in meausrements for Mathematics where we had a scale of 1cm = 1km. Each day we wrote in our Turtle Diary about how far she had traveled. For Literacy we researched Sea Turtles and wrote an Information Report based on all our research. Our last project was to create a crayon and dye Sea Turtle art piece to go with our Information Report.
