I love how the kit comes with the gloves and rubbish bins. We used it for a cleanliness brigade for our STEM initiative. It was also helpful that it had a poster of the kinds of rubbish that we collected as it became a springboard for researching the different plastic waste we create.

Children were engaged and enjoyed learning about the sea turtles. We made links to our Waste free lunch boxes that we do at our school. As we were only year 0, we picked rubbish up around teh school playground. Children enjoyed receiving text messages.

The students were hooked on tracking our turtle and following its progress. The text messages drew them into caring about the effects of plastic rubbish on their environment, and how dangerous it was. We use the gloves and clean-up bags to clean our school and the native area over a 2-week period. We discussed where the rubbish was coming from (our lunches) and that it was everyone's responsibility to clear it away before it reached the ocean.

This was such a good kit for our juniors. I loved how it had the online aspect - the class loved tracking a live turtle. It then fed into some great writing, statistics with a real context and very cool turtle art. I still have some kids tracking our turtle Buddy even though we finished the kit a few weeks ago!

Our kids loved tracking the turtles and learning about where they live and their movements. They were able to do this independently as it didn't use Google Maps. The personal aspect of the 'Live video updates' and messages made the writing component engaging. We did struggle with measuring the distances but overall a great inquiry with integrated learning.

A truly rich context for learning that I would highly recommend. My class loved discovering all about turtles and how to protect the environment. The learning kept them engaged for the whole term, and I was easily able to weave it into all areas of the curriculum. As a kaiako, I felt strongly supported, and it significantly eased my workload. Thank you for all your amazing work in putting this excellent resource together!
