How has this kit impacted your class culture toward whenua ora (land wellness) and sustainability? This kit had a really positive impact on our class culture around whenua ora and sustainability. Students became more aware of how their everyday actions affect the land and ocean, and they showed increased care and responsibility for our environment. We noticed more conversations about reducing rubbish, looking after our school grounds, and reminding each other to be kaitiaki. The shared experience helped build a sense of collective responsibility and pride in caring for our whenua.

We used Diary of a Turtle 25 from School Kits NZ for our Junior School of year 1-4's. It was a fantastic resource for our syndicate. The kit was engaging and age-appropriate and really helped support our learning about the environment and caring for our natural world. The activities and resrouces were easy to use and sparked great discussions, and the students were highly motivated throughout. A great, ready-to-go kit that I would happily use again.

Diary of a Turtle is a fantastic school toolkit that makes learning both fun and meaningful. Tracking and following our turtle, Ariel, was an exciting experience that kept us engaged and curious throughout. It was truly amazing to see just how far turtles can travel and to learn about their journeys in a real and memorable way. This toolkit brings marine science to life and is a wonderful resource for helping students connect with nature while learning important concepts.

We have a class turtle, Red eared slider so the building of matauranga around kaitiakitanga of our waterways and oceans really hit home. the understading and empathy the tamariki showed and shared has been amazing. Great learning out in te Taiao also.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? Text messages - tamariki really understood speaking and writing as if they were a turtle and what they would see, how they would feel, and what they would do.
How many bags of rubbish did your class collect? We are a rubbish free school and decided that with this kit we would collect the rubbish from tamariki's lunch box over a period of a few weeks and see what we ended up with. This was quite overwhelming for some of them when they realised how much collectively just our class did collect. We then used some of these items to make our art project.
How has this kit impacted your class culture toward whenua ora (land wellness) and sustainability? We often now have tamariki come to us and say that they had seen rubbish on the ground, particularly plastic and that they picked it up and put it in the bin.

We are a class of New Entrants and what stood out for our tamariki was writing the daily responses to the Sea Cleaners messages. We also shared additional photos of rubbish on beaches around the world and they constantly asked, "Is this real?" Having the diary template, the Sea Cleaners messages and videos really hooked tamariki into the topic. This lasted for 8 weeks of the term!
