“I think this would be better suited for younger students. A lot of my year 5s and 6s, especially boys, didn't find the actitivities as engaging so I wa changing them a lot which is fine but just a thought.”

“Feedback from the group I worked with was really positive. The quality of the resources made it feel really special for them. The conversations between the ākonga and their whānau and back to me were really powerful. Real growth from using this. The ākonga have recommended its use in the future.”

Was there a particular component that struck a chord with your class? Really loved getting my Year 9 students to put some 'You're beautiful to me' videos for the adults they live with and then I emailed the video to their parents/caregivers. Got some really awesome and grateful emails back from some of the parents.

How has this the kit influenced the way in which students speak to each other? I was putting a lot of emphasis on trying to be kind to others so I hope it made a difference.

Which response stood out most? #6 An adult in my life has sought approval from someone else about how they looked before going out somewhere. Nearly all my students except 1 said yes. Quite a surprise for the students too as we as adults are not quite practicing what we preach.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? The trusted adult letter - I returned these to my students after reading them and told them how valuable something like that is and to hold on to it for as long as they could. It's something that could cheer them up when they need it. Knowing how valued they are by their trusted adults is what they will remember.

“Really enjoyed teaching this unit with my particular class I had. They really got into it and could feel that they were also enjoying it. Absolutely awesome resources that come with the kit. Makes things so much easier.”

How has this the kit influenced the way in which students speak to each other? We have introduced a gratitude box- students nominate other students anonymously for the positive contributions they make each week. We read them all out and celebrate the impact we can have on others.

“This was a great kit to create awareness of individuals self esteem levels and to recognise it in others in the learning space. We took the opportunity to discuss things that dysregulate us and matched it withthe Zones of Reguylation. This allowed discussion around things that make the day more difficult and things to be able to help us find what calms us down and allows us to refocus! An awesome kit with great wee resources to facilitate well being and recognise differences in others. recommended!”

“Initially I thought it was a bit waffly for my students (country kids, 20 boys, 6 girls: Year 7/8). They enjoyed watching the videos but a few pop-ups on the side were off topic and were looking at themes that I did not want to get into or think was appropriate.”
