Did this kit increase your students awareness of the skills needed to work in the vet industry? Definitely. It also helped having a local vet come in and do a "mock examination" of her dog, so the students could witness this firsthand. They also asked lots of questions.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? Very positive feedback from students and parents. Lots of student engagement, discussions, sharing of ideas and teamwork.
“This kit was very engaging for the students. It was hands-on...they LOVED playing in the Vet School. Luckily, we had a parent from a local Vet who donated lots of resources/equipment, so the kids could really get into role play. The students also really enjoyed the Fairy Tales unplugged coding element...great for them to understand that coding doesn't just have a digital aspect. Overall, lots of cool experiences!”

How did this resource help students understand process of elimination using data analysis? The students learned that they had to use not only the evidence/data they were given but think about the story when eliminating the diagnoses. They also learned that they had to be able to give clear reasoning as to why they were eliminating a diagnosis.

Did this kit increase your students awareness of the skills needed to work in the vet industry? Absolutely - they gained a very good appreciation for what vets do and how hard the job is when your patient can't talk. They learned they had to listen carefully and look for other indicators from the animals to figure out what was wrong.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? The kids LOVED it! The way that this kit allowed them to practice their analysis, diagnosis and reasoning skills was different to what they had done before and they loved it. The parents were also very impressed with the attention to detail and the process the kids went through to diagnose their animals. Lots of the kids went home and talked about their learning too which was great.
“An excellent and engaging kit that brought a real career to life in the classroom and inspiring children to care for animals and see this as a learning pathway. This kit was excellent for helping to promote student reasoning skills using the diagnostic process to eliminate and come up with a diagnosis for a sick patient. Highly recommend this kit!”

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? They loved the hands on aspect and thought the materials given were real which helped make the kit authentic for them to use. Feedback was really positive from the students.

They loved the interactive aspects and what a vet needs to do to make a diagnosis, It was encouraging to see how many thought that being a vet may be a career they may one day want to follow, whereas before it had not been a thought.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? The children were keen to go and speak to their parents (especially the ones who live on farms and raise animals) and check some of the 'tests', respiration, temperature, pulse, on their animals at home on the farm.
“The children thoroughly enjoyed Story Vets. Coming from a rural school I thought the children would enjoy the kit. Some of them surprised us with their in-depth knowledge of the various patients. They loved listening to and trying to count the heartbeats, especially Mrs H Penny. Some detailed discussions were had and it was interesting to see the collaborative discussions that took place while the children tried to make a diagnosis.”
