How did this resource help students understand process of elimination using data analysis? It took a bit for some students to grasp this concept of eliminating possibilities, while children of year 4 farmers quickly grasped this concept.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? The more capable year 4s have become experts at guiding younger year 3 students. Parents have shared that their child has talked about this programme in great detail. They are thrilled. I made an Educa post of the students presentation of their animal case file to the class. Parents were delighted with this too.
“Our year 3-4 class LOVED the Story Vets School Kit. We ran this programme as part of our Curious Kids. Students worked in groups of 5 and were so focussed on researching information about their animal, learning about the story they came from, learning what the best questions were to find out information that would lead them to a diagnosis. This programme really captured their critical thinking skills and helped them make connnections between reading, writing, science and real life contexts. I highly recommend this programme.”

“The range and variety within this kits was excellent, loved that we could start the next parts and still come back and revisit the unplugged coding and scratch activities. I wish we had more to to undertaken more thorough research on animals, but time is always limited, so we picked and chose what interested us to know more about animals. Thank you!”

How did this resource help students understand process of elimination using data analysis? It was great. Students learnt how to pick up on clues and make educated guesses through a tick list. It helped to show them how to write a list of from standard tests to more specific tests.

“I think this product would be more suitable for a tech-savvy teacher. By Term 4 my brain cells have been depleted, and I found it difficult to navigate the planning and implementation of the lessons. However, with clearer guidance or simpler instructions, it could be a very useful resource. Prehaps putting clear planning templates in the resource book would have been more helpful. It did not feel that it was easy to pick up and teach with.”

“Story vet came with lots of amazing hands on resources but not enough to cater for a whole class. Lucky we had multiple people with the kits so we could join all the resources together. The pack took ages to try and work out what was what - a lot of teacher prep went into working out what was needed for each lesson. The children were engaged with the tasks however it was very time consuming to put together and to link the lessons and to work out how to put reading and writing into it.”

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? The students loved the hands on activities - both from our vet visit and the patient files. Parents loved the ending where we published our changed Fairy Tales.
“This unit was perfect for my Year 4-5 children at our small rural school. The technology aspect was so easy and relevant. We set up a vet area in the classroom where the children spent many hours at "play". We were able to be involve our local community with vet visits. The children found it a slow buildup to get "qualified" as vets but they loved it when they got their patient files and the elimination process began.”

“The students enjoyed the unplugged Scratch coding aspect They enjoyed learning about vets, and made lots of comparisions to Doctors. Having the examples was helpful and made it more meaningful to them.”
