What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? They enjoyed the idea of it all, but because the term is so busy and it's so indepth it was hard to get through it.
It is very long! It definitly requires a lot of time put into the unit - maybe a whole term as it's quite in depth... there isn't enough resources for unplugging too.

I used this with a group of 7 students as part of a literacy project. The students applied to be part of the Story Vet group. Everyone who applied got in. The literacy, digital technologies, science and careers link was super impressive .

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? The students all loved it and are dedicated to finding out more. Great timing for our Ag Day this coming week.
We really loved this kit. We enjoyed all the different videos to learn about animals and their health. The patient tracking sheets with each animal were the favourite parts of the unit for our class. We really enjoyed checking who had the correct diagnosis. The little codes to scan with the ipads on the animal posters were fantastic.

How did this resource help students understand process of elimination using data analysis? The Story Vets 25 resource supports students in understanding process of elimination through data analysis by guiding them to examine clues, compare information, and rule out incorrect possibilities step-by-step. As they work through character “symptoms,” evidence charts, and diagnostic options, students learn to sort data, identify patterns, and justify decisions. This structured investigation models authentic analytical thinking, helping them clearly see how eliminating unlikely answers leads to a well-supported final conclusion.

Did this kit increase your students awareness of the skills needed to work in the vet industry? The resource introduced students to the world of veterinarians in a meaningful, age-appropriate way. By working through “cases,” they explored how vets observe, diagnose, and problem-solve, giving them a realistic sense of the profession’s responsibilities. The mix of imaginative storytelling and authentic veterinary processes helped students appreciate the science, empathy, and careful decision-making involved. Overall, it made the role of a veterinarian feel both accessible and exciting, deepening their understanding of the field.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? Students responded really positively to the kit. Many said they enjoyed feeling like “real vets” and loved the mystery-style cases that made learning fun and purposeful. Several commented that it was one of the most engaging writing and problem-solving tasks we’ve done. Parents mentioned that their children came home talking excitedly about the animals they were “treating” and the clues they analysed, noting that the resource clearly sparked enthusiasm and genuine conversation about learning.
School Kits – Story Vets 25 is an engaging, ready-to-use resource that my students absolutely loved. The hands-on, imaginative approach made writing feel purposeful and fun, especially for reluctant learners. The materials were clear, well-structured, and easy to implement with minimal prep. I appreciated how it encouraged collaboration, creative thinking, and strong narrative development. A fantastic addition to any literacy programme and well worth using in the classroom.

How did this resource help students understand process of elimination using data analysis? This resource helped students use the process of elimination by guiding them to compare symptoms with TRR data and remove possibilities that didn’t match the evidence. The structured template encouraged them to justify their diagnosis using clear data, helping them see how vets make decisions based on facts, not guesses.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? Students loved the 3D classes / poster activity - scanning and identifying what was wrong with the animal and the hands on sorting activity.
The story vet kits were great for our year 4 writing focus. We turned one of our breakout rooms in to a "vet" clinic showcasing all the posters, vocab and tools. The students enjoyed the link to the fairytale animal characters.

How did this resource help students understand process of elimination using data analysis? The final part of the kit, where students had to make diagnoses, supported the understanding of the process of elimination. We didn't end up spending as much time on this part of the kit as I would have hoped, due to getting to the end of the term.

Did this kit increase your students awareness of the skills needed to work in the vet industry? I think the kit developed student awareness of technical skills required (such as the assessment process, process of elimination, understanding how to measure pulse and respiratory rates).

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? The students found the coding task challenging, however the persevered and were determined to have no bugs in their code.
I recently completed the Story Vets 25 kit with my class of Year 5 and 6 students. I loved that the kit was engaging for the students and challenged them across the curriculum. The online teacher notes were easy to follow, and it was easy to adapt or change up the learning sequence as was necessary for my class. We added in a new activity where the students used Adobe Express to create a vet clinic. The students had to think about what they would find in a vet clinic and use prompts to add AI generated images to a vet clinic. The coding task really challenged the students. I liked how the task was repetitive, so once the students got the hang of it, they were able to transfer their learning to each of the other animals and support their classmates as well by taking on the role of 'teacher'.

How did this resource help students understand process of elimination using data analysis? Through self-regulated research the tamariki, had a good knowledge of each animal. Using prior knowledge gained in the Vet School process, the students enjoyed working with others to eliminate possibilities using appropriate dialogue, and further research. This process was advantageous when defining unfamiliar symptoms and diagnoses, for example Mastitis. I was pleased with the maturity of the class in relation to problems of the udders etc. This evidence demonstrated to me that the learning was at a challenging but, doable level.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? I had a parent consultation evening during the Vet School teaching and when I asked parents about it. I discovered the students were not referring to the lessons as "The Vet School" at home, but, were asking a lot of questions about animals and discussing things they were discovering in a mature fashion.
When I first began planning for the Vet School, I found the amount of information overwhelming, and I was unsure how to organise it in a way that would work well in my class. I did create a provocation area, which was useful for displaying all the information. The four stories and the coding did not work for me, but after the first story, we discussed the role of the wolf, which sparked a lot of discussion about the role of dogs in today's society. I gave the tamariki the task of researching the history of dogs and writing an informative report on what they learnt. We did this with each animal in turn as we moved on to the next story. For the writing element, we focused on vets and the process they use when an animal is brought in to see them. The class enjoyed discussing their own pets and visits to the vets, and, with the information they were finding in the research, more of the process made sense to them, in particular the owners' observations, the norms of each animal, and what they presented to the vets. The highlight of the unit was receiving their certificates. They beamed with pride as they accepted them, and, surprisingly, a few students who had not finished their diagnoses told me, without prompting, that they needed to finish before they could accept the certificate, and other children gathered around them to help them finalise this aspect of the learning. I would like to thank you for this opportunity and the learning I acquired throughout the process. The pride I have experienced witnessing how the children worked together, and the excitement of each revelation that they wanted to share with others about the animals, was worth the angst of getting started.
