How effective were the components of this kit?
Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them
1. The base recipe was a good one, but when we took out the sugar it tasted yuck. 2. I liked grating the carrot for the muffin, but when we cooked them, it felt like something was missing as it didn't taste like carrot cake.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why?
The science experiments that we did with dancing raisins and blow up the balloon with vinegar and baking soda. The students made a connection with what happens when using baking soad or raising agents in baking.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners?
That they know they can bake without lots of sugar. That they can reduce the amount of sugar and the product still bakes well. Do not over mix the batter.
How effective was this kit in promoting healthy food in your classroom?
A little, but I think it would have worked better at the beginning of the year when the students were more engaged.
What learning from this kit can students take home to impact their family's wellness and health?
They can make a simple muffin recipe using 4 ingredients and then innovate on them.

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing?
We did discuss healthier alternatives, however the students felt that if they didn't want to use them they wouldn't.
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating?
Rising costs of healthier options, not being able to cook at home (someone else cooks), taste is really important and their tastebuds are really trained to crave sweet food.
