"We loved our recipe and made good choices for our substitutions!" "Our cupcakes were not cooked all the way through and because we made our mixture too wet. Next time we would add more dry ingredients." "This was so much fun and I learnt about the different types of food I could substitute for sugar."
Which kit components were the most impactful and why?
Having the tins of food already there were great. It saved on going to the supermarket and we had an actual product for the students to look at and read the labels before they started.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners?
They are keen to keep trialling different recipes to come up with a better consistency. In Year 10 we have a design your own icecream flavour competition with a local ice cream shop and this unit prepares them for this competition!
How effective was this kit in promoting healthy food in your classroom?
It made the students more aware of what they are consuming. We looked at the food labels standards too and it was very interesting.

Made them more aware of the amounts of different ingredients they consume and the %age daily intake in one serving.

Some were going home to discuss what they had learned. More about widening their food choices and being keen to try new foods.

Tic tok! Social media and bombardment of advertising. Busy lifestyles and lack of prep time.
