In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Building our relationship with Papatuanuku and the aspects of Kaitiakitanga, this fit in so well with what we were trying to focus on for the term and year.
Great hands on learning! This was awesome! Students loved being engaged with the science concept of the learning, especially having our local Eco quest group come in and show the students how to test the water using other equipment and resources as well as our kit. wonderful to see that what we received is exactly what they actually use. As we had just started learning about statistic, were able to combine and apply their new knowledge with their data.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? We used this kit as a basis for an art work based on our Turangawaewae and for sharing our mihi.
We really enjoyed this kit and were able to work in our local school area. We have a patch of land that a stream runs through over the fence from school that we recently discovered belonged to the Ministry of Education. It had been used as a dumping ground for many years by locals. We have had a huge project cleaning it up, planting and restoring the stream over the last 5 years. We have really loved this project and checking the water was healthy and supporting life was such a thrill for us after many years of hard work! Thanks so much - we have enjoyed sharing this learning with the rest of the school and our community! Photos to come...

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? We had great discussions around cultural responsiveness of native plants and streams. Leaving the environment as we found it.
This kid was wonderful! Due to Covid and a drought we struggled to find a stream! We went to the local MAGS farm and testing their stream after a good week of downpour. The kids got dirty, they got in the water and we had some wonderful science conversations. Thanks for the kit!

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? It opened conversations and enabled students to think about cultural significance. With the support of parents and our local community members we were able to share ideas and understandings of the cultural significance of water to many cultures.
Thanks heaps School Kit for the amazing Water testing Kit we have used at Oxford Area School. We made a day of it and combined a great walk to a local waterfall. Integrating curriculum areas in our school was a highlight. The kit was a fantastic resource and the students thoroughly enjoyed the EOTC experience and activities. They certainly learnt about water quality and healthy waterways in our backyard! Thanks to Dairy NZ for the support.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Students really enjoyed creating items, like the bathyscope, to conduct their investigations. They really enjoyed measuring for different purposes and found it interesting what we would do with the data once we had completed our investigations.

Many mentioned other waterways that they hadn't really paid attention to previously but after the kit they had gone for a walk with

We really enjoyed this kit! It was a little spread out and disjointed with the lockdowns but the kids really got into it. All the hands on measurement and data collecting really appealed to them all.

We are continuing with our enviroschools work with a group of students and continuing our planting project and some students have shown an interest in testing the river at different times of the year and different locations to gather data over time.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Central Otago is a community that relies hugely on water for farming, growing and leisure. Water quality We also tied in with this unit a waterways planting on a local farm. Our students are very aware of water supply and water quality issues now.
We have had some great feedback from students, parents and the wider community about this project. On our river visit we were filmed by The South Today and a video clip appeared on the ODT site. This raised a lot of interest in the testing we were doing!

Thank you for this kit. As it had more of a 'scientific' emphasis, it was handed to our science department to implement. As a homeroom teacher I worked as a support teacher and did the integrated English component. So I was unfamiliar with much of the preparation that had gone on in class before the visit to the river. I personally think it was a little advanced for Y7/8 and it would be more suited to Y9/10.

Great kit with lots of useful bit for testing water. Activities are well documented with many to choose from.
