“We really enjoyed this kit and were able to work in our local school area. We have a patch of land that a stream runs through over the fence from school that we recently discovered belonged to the Ministry of Education. It had been used as a dumping ground for many years by locals. We have had a huge project cleaning it up, planting and restoring the stream over the last 5 years. We have really loved this project and checking the water was healthy and supporting life was such a thrill for us after many years of hard work! Thanks so much - we have enjoyed sharing this learning with the rest of the school and our community! Photos to come...”

With the support of parents and our local community members we were able to share ideas and understandings of the cultural significance of water to many cultures.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Students really enjoyed creating items, like the bathyscope, to conduct their investigations. They really enjoyed measuring for different purposes and found it interesting what we would do with the data once we had completed our investigations.

“Thank you for this kit. As it had more of a 'scientific' emphasis, it was handed to our science department to implement. As a homeroom teacher I worked as a support teacher and did the integrated English component. So I was unfamiliar with much of the preparation that had gone on in class before the visit to the river. I personally think it was a little advanced for Y7/8 and it would be more suited to Y9/10.”
