In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Great for developing understanding. Our stream passes through significant cultural sites, as well as being able to discuss the importance of water to our iwi.
Thank you so much for this kit. We unfortunately didn't have a chance to use it - with lockdown and then our local stream had a rahui on it due to a chemical spill from our local factory. We did discuss the stream and it's importance, but had to refrain from visiting at this stage. As a previous environmental educator I can say the kit was very comprehensive, had great resources and equipment and I can not wait to use it with my class next year. I have answered from looking at the kit and from what we had planned to do, and what we worked on before having to stop our stream study.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? It was great to be supported in developing not only the students understanding, but also our own as teachers and adult helpers.
This was a great kit to get us out into our local area, looking at water health and starting discussions about what we can do to improve it.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? the children have learnt about respecting our local waterways and that for these to be here in the future what they need to do
This was an excellent resource that we are able to use as part of our camp day. The children really enjoyed being able to take the temperature after making predictions. We were able to run this alongside our local ECAN officer as the kids were looking at different insects that live in the water.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? It linked back to earlier work we had done around peheha. Our school has had a focus on Turangawaewae and Kaitiakitangi this year and this linked in perfectly to those concepts.
This was a fantastic kit! The instructions were easy to follow and the children absolutely loved conducting the stream study. There was so much learning connected with this unit. Loads of maths and science (knowledge as well as skills). Not to mention the co-operation and team work that was required.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? The students got to understand why water and the trees around the stream are 'Tapu"; to Tangata whwnua. Therefore (no reira) students understood the importance of respecting water as the main source of life as well as the responsibility to keep it clean.
The students were engaged and took part in all the activities. The resources provided played a most critical role in the successful completion of all the activities above. The use of the thermometer to measure the water temperature was most interesting for the students as they used the data collected from the first reading in the morning and compared it with the other readings throughout the day. All the groups found it interesting to see how these readings differ and also how the readings corresponding with water taken from deeper down. The current was measured using a stopwatch and there was a noticeable in difference in the strength of the current throughout the day. Because of the depth of the water I could not use the shorter sticks provided but we were able to use some sticks from nearby. I found the equipment provided very accurate and effective.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? A lot because it encouraged us to use a local water way and therefore we needed to search to find our local waterway. To search we needed to know the stream in Maori. We were also able to look up some of the creatures we were looking for in Maori like Kur
This was a brilliant kit and well worth using. The students benefited from it hugely and it was very user friendly. Easy to use, easy to follow the instructions and all resources were provided which made it easy to be organised and keep students engaged.
