What was the impact of the daily stamping practice in your classroom and which water benchmark did your students find most fascinating? Stamping daily was effective because we say that some containers 'filled up' faster than others - making the other containers more of a focus for the class. The impact of drinking water not fizzy blew them away!
How have your students' perceptions of water conservation changed since using the resource and did it foster a sense of responsibility and awareness in your classroom? Water conservation became a daily conversation between themselves and with their adults on how to make a difference. Thoughout this process the school also fixed the leaky taps, and water fountains which the kids thought was very cool. The sense of responsibility has definitely increased.

Although Water Savers didn't appear to be 'exciting', the students certainly became interested when seeing the results of their efforts start to build. Daily stamping was a great way to remind them to save water in a variety of ways and it helped keep them engaged. The learning was powerful for students to understand how precious fresh water is, and the kit was a great tool to use alongside our larger unit of environmental impacts.

What influence has this kit had in promoting the longevity of water saving habits and what other water related topics did your students come up with? We explored many different topics ranging from how climate change affects the water cycle to what is happening to the glaciers around the world. The children selected their own research questions to investigate.

What was the impact of the daily stamping practice in your classroom and which water benchmark did your students find most fascinating? It was mind blowing for them to think of the comparisons made on the charts to the size of different real life objects. They were surprised that drinking water helps save water!
How have your students' perceptions of water conservation changed since using the resource and did it foster a sense of responsibility and awareness in your classroom? Definitely! We have had leaky taps and water fountains in the past. These have now been fixed and the kids are much more mindful of water usage and wastage.

We followed on from the Sea Cleaners kit in term 1 with this kit. It tied in beautifully and provided a great opportunity for our tamariki to go deep with their learning. It helped build awareness about water saving and the importance of treating wai as the precious taonga it is. Relying on ākonga to bring their data daily was the only challenge. I would try to set up a digital way to collect this in the future - maybe google form as many reported doing it but forgot to bring it back.

This school box fitted perfectly with our place based learning about ‘wai’ in Heretaunga with the plains, aquafier, braided rivers & history learning - especially after Cyclone Gabriel which highlighted how valuable our water is.

As a class, we enjoyed how we can work together to reduce the amount of water we use. We also enjoyed learning about the water cycle and some fun water-related facts.

What influence has this kit had in promoting the longevity of water saving habits and what other water related topics did your students come up with? Have had lots of conversations with whānau about the different water saving strategies students were using, and helping their whānau to use. Some students got really into tracking their water consumption, and worked out their household use down to the litre! We also looked at our in-class practises, such as filling a sink to wash paint brushes rather than a tap. And- they helped me get a lot better at drinking water!

What was the impact of the daily stamping practice in your classroom and which water benchmark did your students find most fascinating? They LOVED the daily stamping- lots of maths sneakily integrated here, and there was a big fixation on the 5 minute showers. 5 minute showers are a tough one for me personally as I love a good soak, so when I shared with them that I'd managed a 2 minute shower it got wildly competitive!
How have your students' perceptions of water conservation changed since using the resource and did it foster a sense of responsibility and awareness in your classroom? Students are more aware of how easy it is to conserve water- most of these changes do not have a big impact on your day to day life, it's just about making the right choice in the moment. Being rural and near a stream and the ocean, this also linked really nicely into ideas of being kaitiaki for our environment and waterways.

We really enjoyed Water Savers 24! As a class we spent a lot of time developing an understanding of the water cycle, making links to procedural and explanation writing as we went. We also spent some time understanding volumes of water- our preconceived ideas about volume were definitely challenged and changed! Completing our watersavers graphs became a daily highlight, and somewhat competitive (this is my fault, for one day having a 2 minute shower!). We actually continued graphing after our 10 days was up, and developed strategies to re-record in graphs that we managed to fill- some three times over! Lots of excellent discussion was had and understandings of how easily we can make changes to reduce water consumption were developed and strengthened.

What influence has this kit had in promoting the longevity of water saving habits and what other water related topics did your students come up with? The topic that got students thinking the most was the hidden water used in the manufacturing of products. This also led to a discussion about the water used to make the take home packs - our one criticism of the kit would be the excess items sent home. Most of the badges etc would have ended up in the bin.

What was the impact of the daily stamping practice in your classroom and which water benchmark did your students find most fascinating? The daily stamping practice was the highlight of the kit as it really helped keep students motivated over the 10 days.
How have your students' perceptions of water conservation changed since using the resource and did it foster a sense of responsibility and awareness in your classroom? Most students hadn't really thought about conserving water much before. The kit helped them see how small, daily actions can quickly add up to a lot of water saved!

Our class enjoyed the Water Savers Kit, especially getting to stamp our charts on the wall each morning. These provided a great visual representation of our progress and helped keep the students engaged. Our town has just introduced water metering, so for the first time there will be a cost to the water we use. For this reason, the water saving actions and learning activities we did were well received at home!

With great practical ideas and cool physical items in the box this kit kept my students interested in science, especially the ones who said they thought science was 'boring'.

This kit aligned perfectly with our statistics unit that we were doing, as well as teaching the students about water care. It was easy enough to uses too.
