Unscrupulous Expedia Travel Car Insurance through AIG insurance I am writing to warn people about the unscrupulous Expedia Global Product Travel Insurance offered on its website when making a reservation for a car rental. It is far from hassle free, but appears to be a scam or at best an unprincipled business looking to avoid the coverage it advertises at time of enrolling in a car rental policy. When I tried to use the insurance to reimbursed me for a claim of £750 that I needed to pay myself to the car rental company directly at time of return for my car rental, the insurance provider affiliate with Expedia, AIG travel insurance, refused to cover me, claiming that the policy does not cover domestic trips unless it “is beyond 100 kilometres from your Home.” However, my 9-day trip was well beyond 100 kilometers (London to Dorset), for which I provided evidence of accommodation receipt in my name. They still have not responded but are dragging along and I have had to follow-up several times, which is very frustrating and time consuming, and far from the hassle-free service the insurance claims and is meant to be. What is concerning, unprincipled, and quite frankly pathetic, is that AIG uses deceptive marketing to mislead customers to purchase an insurance product for which a fundamental exclusion is not presented upfront, (even when other eligibility reminders are provided upfront), but buried in policy wording that needs to be separately read. This is fraudulent behavior on the part of any insurance company, and hence why caution consumers to avoid Expedia UK and AIG insurance products (https://www.aig.com/individual).
