I'm planning a 30-35 day trip to the Himalayas, and Ben M. has been EXTREMELY helpful in sourcing much of the needed gear: boots, climbing equipment, you name it. Everything for 6000m+ peaks. He has provided customer-friendly recommendations on pricing and quality. I will definitely work with Ben and Backcountry on my next trip.

I ordered a Columbia Fleece from Backcountry, through Amazon. I received a plastic pipe. I was told by Amazon that Backcountry would replace the fleece. They will not, I have purchased many items directly from Backcountry in the past. Never Again.

My gearhead Ben M has made me an even bigger backcountry fan. Not only did he help me get an item I accidentally shipped back but when a new pair of sneakers proved to have a defect he made the replacement even easier than I anticipated. I’ve always like backcountry for a variety of reasons and I’ve had a few gearheads now - but Ben M not only stands out as being good at his job he cares about the customer experience too. It makes me want to make sure I always check you guys first before buying anything I need.

Great customer service!!! I've been working with Ben M., a summit gearhead, for the last couple months, and I couldn't be happier with the level of customer service. He's given me feedback about climbing gear, whether gear is in stock, upgraded free shipping, etc. I get most of my backpacking, hiking, and climbing gear here. Highly recommend Backcountry.com!!

Horrible customer service. I ordered an Arete Sling 8L Hydration Pack, which was supposed to come with a water bottle. The water bottle was missing when it was delivered. Customer service wanted me to return it, then they’d send me a new one with the bottle, but they said that since they didn’t have the color I had ordered (black), they’d have to send me a different color, and charge me $15-$20 more since that color was more expensive. I suggested they just send me the water bottle (saving themselves postage), and they said no. I suggested I send the bag back, they take the bottle from a different color bag and send me back the black bag with the bottle (since that’s the color bag I wanted), they said no, I’d have to pay more and get a different colored bag.

I was under the impression that backcountry is a professional company with better response to customers. But it turned out to be untrue. I placed an order online and these idiots havent shipped anything for a week and they are clueless when they will ship. An unprofessional way of dealing with the customers

Ordered chaco sandles, after repeated contacts by me telling them fedex has no record of the tracking number they provided. Now they dont even respond to the email from FedEx stating no such number found.

I have had a terrible experience with Backcountry customer service and their shipping. The package that I ordered did not arrive as scheduled and a customer service representative speculated that it is probably lost. They claim they shipped it by FedEx but the tracking number that they gave me is supposedly not an accurate Fed Ex number. Every customer service rep. has told me something different and there is no one in charge to be found. I was told I could file a claim and wait for a resolution. Is this the way we do business in the U.S. now? I would not recommend them because I don't trust them and they don't seem to care about their customers satisfaction. Beware!
