This board is a great equalizer for me to share my love of chess with my sons. The assist helps them miss early blunders and actually enjoy the game. And then they get to beat me sometimes and what’s more satisfying than embarrassing your dad. I’ve had some odd behavior on occasion but overall it’s been a great experience.

The board is great when it works well, and it was pretty intuitive for me to set up the board to play at a level about equal to my own. The Android app is a bit of a mess, and the board can go haywire sometimes, but once they get these issues resolved I think they really have something here.

Overall, ChessUp is great to have in my hands after so long. The board is well-made and the concept of touch-sensitive pieces interacting with a light-enabled board is genius. There is a lot of potential still untapped - and that is why I deducted one star. It's nice the hardware is delivered, but so much of the opportunity lies in the software. Integration with online chess platforms, much more lessons and educational resources that leverage the unique board functionality, etc. Hoping to see that sooner rather than later. Also shipping was a bit of a challenge since I was told the board had shipped and kept asking why UPS showed no progress, only to be told that it takes time for UPS to update. In the end, it turned out my board was not shipped at all - this would've been resolved faster if the company had listened to me more seriously at the start.

Really loving the board, fantastic design and I've been using it a lot. The only problem I can find comes in connecting to lichess to play online. Even when I choose all random, I am always assigned to the black pieces. 100 percent of the time. Also wish that I could play my regular 10 minute games instead of 15x10 or 5x5. I don't see the option for 10 minutes.

I unfortunately am unable to give this board a full 5 stars. While the pieces and board are of outstanding quality, the App is incompatible with my version of Android, and the developer has not yet made any patches or announcements to rectify this. Apart from that, it is fantastic.

Hi. The board has been great fun playing on. The time teaching my children how to play has been priceless. It has fully lived up to my expectations. I have had an issue once or twice when my hand hovers over a piece (not touching), and the square lights up..? Unfortunately, at this stage, I'm unable to play wirelessly with anyone online as having an older phone with an older OS won't accept the App. But once this problem is rectified I hope I'll be able to use the board to its full extent. But all in all, I'm very happy with the board and looking forward to starting playing people online.

The ChessUp board it very good with there being the occasional issue with calibration but this is usually fix but just turning the board off then on again.

It’s very cool and interesting. Works mostly as intended, sometimes a move won’t register correctly but that only happened once or twice

I really like the board! The board is working really well for me and it's a great experience in itself. There are a few problems I have with the app. 1. It is not obvious how I can set up and play from a custom position on it 2. I do not like that I have to only play such wide ratings ranges on Lichess (+-500 elo). This makes it feel harder to get a game closer to my skill range 3. I would love chess.com compatibility because it is where I prefer to play. 4. I am getting a bug where it is not showing that my opponent has resigned 5. I get a bug where it says I am receiving assistance. This happens after I check my opponent's rating in the app during a game

Occasionally the board will not allow you to move and get stuck. Sometimes resetting the last piece moved helps, but I find myself sometimes having to shutdown and restart mid game. (I did calibrate my board each time before playing.) Also on online games via lichess the board doesn’t recognize resigning from the opponent. You have to resign yourself and hope your opponent actually resigned. Beyond these few minor issues, I really love the board, and can’t wait to teach my daughter how to play on it. I hope the lessons grow to include opening theory training. Right now all of the lessons are beginner level.

Board is awesome. Pieces are high quality. Once the Android app is complete and the features promised are available, also the board and pieces have lasted 5ish years, then ChessUp will have earned and delivered 5 stars. Keep it up Bryght Labs, we believe in you!

While the product meets and exceeds my initial expectations, the software side of the board has been greatly hindering my ability to play at all. The firmware updates have never finished for my board and the ChessUp App seems to crash and bug out consistently. Hopefully they can fix it sooner than later before I forget that I own the board.

So far the board is really buggy. The first game I tried to play with my son, the board got very confused thinking we had moved pieces we didn't or not recognizing pieces we had moved. It seemed to get confused most often if we touched a piece (thinking of moving it) and then chose another piece instead. I hope a firmware update can fix things or else I'll be trying to get my money back. Edit: Support worked with me and things are working much better now. Hope it continues to work. Upped the rating to 4/5.

Really nice quality board, Really nice quality pieces, The app is just uh... Not quite ready. Bluetooth only stays connected while the app is open, and not yet able to play online or reliably run a firmware update without something crashing. Despite the app being almost unusable for me at the moment though I still say this is worth the 4 stars, since the only existing issues are things that will theoretically/hopefully fixed in the future. I really don't want to have to try to keep forcing my phone to stay open on one app to keep a game going (when games are actually playable that is) so that's definitely a major thing I hope gets changed, because it almost feels like it's not actually using a Bluetooth service at the moment.

I got checkmated by my 4 year old, lol. This is a great teaching tool for new comers into such an intimidating game. The android app is in the works , but the hardware itself is plug and play. Definitely worth the investment for yourself or a loved one. Five stars till the app gets working as an app should.

Great! Two issues 1) board sometimes gets pieces mixed up. Need a way to change the pieces on the app 2) sometimes assist stops working during the middle of a game. Super frustrating when I’m playing with my kids.
