Loved the chess board! Everything was high quality and functional. My only gripe was having to wait for the Android app. Played alot of games, no issues yet. Still testing the app. Overall, one of the best computer chess sets I've ever played.

This board is literally a "Game Changer." The clever feedback it provides for potential moves, and the intuitive answers it provides make the game of Chess appeal to virtually everyone, regardless of their level of experience. I've given away TWO to College student Son, and British Grandson, and they are playing every single day. I have not tried the "remote game" capability yet, but what I've seen so far has impressed me so much I've bought a third set for myself!

It will disconnect your phone from the board 7 out 10 games, not letting you finish the game and making you lose against the AI and other players in Lichess. It is not integrated with chess.com. When it works, it is beautiful. But that happens once in a blue moon.

We purchased "Chess Up" to our special needs school in Denmark. The students are really enjoying playing chess with Chess Up, they are so keen that there is always a queue to play. Shipping was reasonably fast and it was packaged well. I can highly recommend Chess Up

Did not work on Android, still between after months, and the developers don't seem to know what to do about it. What a waste if money!

After several weeks of waiting, I was finally able to get my hands on this fabulous chess set. I am pleasantly surprised by the size of the game, which offers greater playing comfort. The manufacturing quality is impeccable, all the electronic part of the game works perfectly well, and the AI shows good responsiveness as well as a good level of adversity. The educational approach of the game allows you to progress while remaining fun. This chess set is a great success, it remains today most certainly one of the best, if not the best chess set currently available on the world market, I am very satisfied with my purchase, and I hope that the game will last me forever. Congratulations to the Bryght Labs team, for your great work on this chess game.

The materials were decent but the operation was poor. Approx 1 in 5 games ended in board errors where a random light or lights would come on & not go off; game would freeze under these circumstances. Saving games is iffy, worked less than half the time; saving should be auto (my opinion) or indicator light should be unique to square, maybe red since that would not be used for normal play so user is sure game saved. Board should be capable of better play without app; good avg. club player would run around 1500, board level seems about 1200 max. Using app was very buggy (other reason wished lone board was better), quit shortly after receiving. Since my issues are firmware/software based it is my hope that the issues I encountered get repaired and the board will perform as stated.

I love my ChessUp board! The experience is so unique, not quite like online play, not quite like playing on a typical board. Most of all, I think this board makes chess more feasible to play between people of different skill levels. I play chess a lot, so my friends who don't have a great knowledge of strategy or tactics would never want to play me in a normal setting, but having the ability to play on a pretty board with lights that stops them from losing right away makes it more fun and interesting for both of us! I also love how responsive the Bryght Labs team is, and though the experience is not without is kinks, I have no doubt that the team will continue to work to improve the user experience. All that being said, I have a few observations of areas for improvement: (1) The syncing between the board and Android app is a bit rocky. I have played several games where the computer assistance has disconnected mid-game, either leaving me without an AI opponent, or leaving my poor unskilled friend to fend for themself. What makes this worse is that the only way to fix it seems to be to turn the board on and off, which loses the game being played, as I haven't been able to find a way to start from position. (2) I wish there were a way to start a game from a position. The dream scenario for me is the be able to place the pieces on the board in the position I want to start, have the app automatically recognize the position, ask basic questions like "Whose turn is it?" and "Does either side have castling rights?" and then just go. This is vastly more preferable to entering a FEN into the app. (3) For exploring branches of different lines, I wish there were an easier way to return to a separate anchor position other than the regular starting position. One solution might be the option to do multiple takebacks, perhaps having a back button on the app board and when you find the position you want to return to, click a button to return the board to that position. Another solution might be to have a separate analysis mode where you can set a temporary anchor position. For example, if I wanted to explore variations in the Stafford gambit, i could start the game normally, and once I get to move 4, I could tap a button that makes further moves as hypotheticals instead of adding it to the official game transcript, and when you're done exploring a line you can tap a button again to return the board to that anchor position. Another benefit of this would be the ability to analyze games on the board after they finish. (4) I've noticed that the AI assistance recommends some strange moves, usually I'm positions that are already "lost" for one side. For example, I was playing with a friend on level 4 assistance, and they had several moves available, one that allowed checkmate in 1, and others that lost more slowly, and all moves lit up as green. This seems strange to me. (5) I'm not sure if this just a me problem, or an android problem, or a known problem, but I've had some trouble with the lichess integration in that it seems to not work at all. I select all the attributes of the game I want to search for, and it doesn't seem to search once I click search. Not sure what the issue is. I also wish I could just navigate through the lichess app instead and say that I'm using an external board. (6) I wish there were options to connect to a computer instead of a phone. Overall though, I am very happy with the board and can't wait for new features to evolve and continue to enrich this wonderful investment!

Hello Jeff and ChessUp Team, I love my ChessUp! I know I have asked way too many questions, but you have answered all of them promptly and efficiently, and I am grateful for that! I think with future updates it will be unmatched in the world of electronic chess computers. It is my humble opinion from extensive research that your only competition at the moment is the Chessnut Air. It has some features that are currently lacking in ChessUp, i.e. position set up, pgn export, analysis of games, chess 960, and piece recognition. Now I know your team is actively engaged in updating the ChessUp app with these improvements except for piece recognition. I don't think you can do anything about that, and that's alright. But, in order to stay ahead of the competition, updating as quickly as possible is paramount to increase sales with the holidays just around the corner. However, there are features that are present in ChessUp that don't exist in Chessnut Air. Most notably, the assistance given by the lighting up of the moves. Also, ChessUp will be prove to be a great learning tool by the learn function found in the app. I'm sure the GMs are providing inciteful instruction for that. I had not heard of ChessUp before and it was by accident I came across it from a YouTube video. And, if I may be so bold as to suggest, to get your brand out there in a huge way, I recommend a wonderful third party retailer in Chesshouse.com. I have used them in the past and think they are a marvelous company. I have played chess for around 50 years, bought computer chess sets when they were terrible in the 1970s. They have fortunately evolved to where they are today, thank goodness! I purchased a Square Off Pro before I heard of ChessUp. Sadly, it became defective 4 months after the purchase. Fortunately, I bought it from Chesshouse.com and they gave me a store credit. I am confident I won't have the same issue with ChessUp. I sincerely believe in your company. I want you not only to survive but thrive. I humbly offer these comments as possible considerations for your review. I have been around chess for many years and I believe I have a little knowledge and expertise in this area. I truly wish you the very best and continued success in what I think could quite possibly be the finest chess computer we will see! Sorry, this wasn't too short. Best regards, Jim Karras

ChessUp is great! My 7-year-old nephew loves learning to play and it allows us to have a good game together with the different assistance levels. My only wish is that it had a mode where I could turn off available moves on my end while keeping the assistance on his. But that is a minor thing. Overall, this is an amazing board that will get lots of use!

My wife and I are in our pre-retirement phase and looking for hobbies to enjoy outside of sports. It’s a great learning tool that’s organic, physical and real. Unlike the many excellent online courses & apps seeing and touching the pieces gives us a 3D experience of a 2D game. Very educational enjoyable and keeps our brains active. Highly recommended for all ages. Thx for creating such a wonderful product!

Fantastic company! Fantastic product! I accidentally purchased a future discounted lot and after not receiving the board for a month or so I called and asked about it. My son was really looking forward to it for this 4th birthday. When I let the customer service person know they shipped one out next day! It arrived on time he was elated.

Buy the Chessup computer! This is the only computer you will ever want or need. But remember: be patient and allow the time for the Chessup team to fix the bugs and continue updating the chess computer, if you do, I believe you will be well rewarded with what I think will absolutely be the finest chess computer on the market. I previously purchased two competitor models and had to take them back because they were defective. I have found customer service to be extremely helpful when I had questions or couldn't figure something out. Their response time in getting back to me was incredibly fast. I understand it is difficult to wait for issues to be resolved and that updates may not happen quickly enough. I too want it to be perfect right away. But these things take time. Be patient, stay the course, and I truly believe you will soon be in possession of an excellent chess computer!! I love my Chessup!

Boars won't sync and will leave you waiting for your opponents move when it is actually your move. GARBAGE. Needs major Android overhaul. Wait a few years before wasting your time and money

The chess up board was easy to set up and has been working flawlessly. I'm hoping to routinely demolish my 10-year-old grandson. With all the practice I'm getting, I suspect I will be unbeatable shortly.

I bought this as a Christmas present for my BIL. He has told me multiple times since Christmas how much he enjoys the gift. I got a chance to play with him yesterday with it and agree with him. Quality piece of equipment and not cheaply made. The design is very nicely put together. The interactions and feedback is quick and accurate. My BIL stated that the online forums for this product are very active and the owners/builders of the game are very much involved in feedback and updates.

The chess set isn't working properly. We were told to try to fix it ourselves which doesn't seem appropriate given the cost of the product. Now we need to determine how to send it in to be repaired or ideally, replaced.

My ChessUp board arrived right on schedule and I am completely thrilled with it. It was well packaged and the board, carry bag, phone stand, etc all are in flawless condition. Setup, from leveling to updating and initial play went smoothly and intuitively. I have already played against the AI and it performed perfectly. I have started to explore the training and learning program. It is easy to follow along, providing clear instruction. The integration between my iPhone and the chessboard is perfect. I will set up my iPad next. I was particularly impressed with the production/manufacturing quality of everything - pieces, software, board, etc. As an early Kickstarter subscriber, I was particularly impressed with the communication I received throughout this process. If you are considering this purchase I can highly recommend it to you. I am a novice in my 70s and after just a few days with this board I now have the confidence that I can learn and enjoy this greatest of games. I could not ask for more. Jim

I was an early adopter through the Kickstarter campaign and just received my order. I wanted to take a moment to thank you and your team for the incredible communication throughout the process and share how impressed I was with the quality of the ChessUp set and the ease of use with the start-up guide and app. I can only imagine that delivering a new product is challenging and the additional complexity associated with COVID and supply-chain issues created even more of a challenge, but you and your team have consistently shared updates throughout the entire process. I've just started to use my ChessUp set but I'm looking forward to playing with family and friends and wanted to say "thank you" to the team for developing and delivering an awesome product. The attention to detail is obvious and ChessUp should introduce the game of Chess to many new players and expand our love of the game to those that play often. Dale
