“Hello,
I faced some problems trying to properply install the Portra Package.
I found the proper way, eventually, thanks to Enrico (Cobalt Support Team).
Excellent and relevant communication who helped me through the wole process.
Thank you very much :-)”
“Cobalt Imaging could be a game changer especially if you are a professional using different brand cameras. The low contrast linear options are a game changer for editing high dynamic range files in raw. The expense can mount up if you are using several different bodies and that would an assessment you would have to make in advance. The film and digital profile emulations are much better than you find elsewhere in my opinion and err towards accuracy rather than spectacular. Overall I'd recommend the system to anyone willing to stand the initial cost associated with the base packs.”
“The technology is, as far as can be determined, impressive. Technically the software seems designed to be used without great complexity. What's desperately lacking is the necessary formal protocols to follow in the practical application of the functionality in each of the working environments: Adobe, Capture One, etc. Or exactly how many of the "base" packs are needed for application across a wide array of camera models generating files in a user's catalog... one for each model of a camera regardless of replication of API data across a Developer's (e.g., Sony, Canon...) or are there singularities that coincide with or replicate other models. It's onerous financially to shell out a fee for each iteration of a camera model family, e.g. Sony a7R, Mk2, Mk3, mk4, mk4a, a7c, a7cr, a7c2, etc. Very poor marks for documentation and clarity of tutorial materials. This is not only poor CRM, but poor marketing.”
“Guys, huge thanks for updating the Base Module! The third version really shines with my Sony A7RV - I've already checked the difference and compared output JPGs from the 2.1 and 3.0 with Fujifilm Digital Pack. The skintone now has less green tint areas, it looks much closer to the real Fujifilm files.
When I share my files with other photographers - they don't believe that color profile may improve the image so drastically. Now they pay close attention to your profiles.
I should leave the feedback regarding the "Profile 2.1 remove scripts" that you provided in the latest email. Windows script didn't work for me. I have Lightroom Classic and your ".bat" script looked for the wrong directory. And it didn't take into account Capture One profiles. So I had to manually remove all old profiles in Lightroom and C1. I'm an IT guy, but I suppose most of your clients may struggle with it.
I also don't see "Fujifilm Digital Pack" in my dashboard anymore. Why it is not available for download? I only see my C1 and Lightroom base modules.
Have a nice day and look forward to seeing new updates from you.”
Thank you very much for the feedback. We thought to improve the website and gift this update to our customers. Unfortunately, the site wasn't immediately efficient, not showing the personal purchases panel perfectly synchronised from the start, but now everything is where it should be. We believe we deserve even more than four stars for offering such a substantial series of updates and an automatic removal updater which, unfortunately, doesn't work 100% due to the extreme variances in MacOS. Of course, everything can be resolved manually. Regards
“Cobalt is a reliable company, and it is striving to create the best emulations on the market. I have currently made myself available to further enhance, if possible, their simulation and spectral sensitivity of Fujifilm Acros II.”
“I like your product & I have attached an image using Cobalt Portra of my granddaughter.
I'm pleased with the results so far.
I must add that your web vids don't have any sound & they are so small when trying to follow your workflow. fix this then perhaps there would be far less confusion with potential buyers. Your info is great for techy type people, but I'm not. I know what look I am after however but I am not interested in the technical side of how you achieved it. I just want to buy the product if I feel it will achieve the result I'm after. Watch the video on how to use it correctly & maybe then sit back sometime & read the techy stuff.
Having said all that I do like your product very much.
Jeff”
“Very pleased with this suite of profiles on the whole. The basic packs give a better starting point than the Adobe Standard profile as they avoid clipping individual colour channels. Don't expect a big difference however. Obviously matching different camera outputs can be made much easier. I also have the analogue emulation for Kodak portra which is very good and editing from a linear profile can give excellent results very difficult to achieve from profiles with curve adjustments built in. The main downside is the cost if you need to get several camera bodies aligned. I think it would be useful if they offered 1, 3 or 5 discounted camera body bundles rather than buying each one separately, and allow you use them as and when a new body was required.”
“Thank you, Cobalt. Your profiles help me edit my pictures and how I want them to look. The color fidelity helps me concentrate on the contrast. I can't wait to see what you have next.”
“The profiles are great, but the problem is it wasn’t made clear enough on the website that I also needed the basic profiles in order to use the Fuji profiles. I then wasted a 15% off coupon because I did this as two separate transactions.”
“I have a number of Cobalt profiles and have been quite satisfied with the quality of them.
My use purpose, which might well differ from the (more narrow) intended purpose which is to emulate, or copy a certain film or digital look, is to use them as a "finishing" application to give a project or sequence a consistent look to the images. I do not put importance as to whether that might be Kodachrome or Provia or Fuji.
I've chosen, and added to my Favorites in LR Classic a selection of finishes from each of the cobalt profiles that I have purchased and will apply just one to a sequence of images.
Initially I was disappointed by the Kodachrome profiles because in my mind they did not represent what I remembered of that emulsion. Now I just mentally discard the Kodachrome name and just use them when a sequence benefits from that particular look.”
“The product is good and it does provide a great deal of flexibility regardless what camera body you use. The film and classic DSLR simulations are pretty much as close as you can get to the original colour rendering and reproduction. The only issue I have is that I had to purchase 3 different DNG packs for each camera body I own. IMO this is somewhat unnecessary and it could be quite pricey especially if you have more than one camera. Overall, I’m happy with Cobalt products although some adjustments regarding pricing structure would make a huge difference.”
“Esperienza con diversi profili Cobalt - per colore e per b/n - sia in ambiente CO che in LR. Costo elevato a parte, sono prodotti di altissima qualità che con accurata e paziente applicazione conducono a risultati molto soddisfacenti perché privi di artificiosità e di notevole impatto.”
“I watched the sample videos on a workflow using the Cobalt Editing functions that seem to have been released in September. They are quick and easy to use, particularly the vignetting and grain mask functions.”
