“Great light. The stand and bag are low quality. The biggest issue is when off for 1-3 hours the phone disconnects so you can’t turn it on with the phone. You have to drop it down and manually turn it back on. Very inconvenient if you want to turn it on at night to get out of your tent.”
We wanted to let you know that your concern has been fully taken care of. We’re happy we could resolve it quickly for you! Thanks again for your feedback — it helps us continue improving.
“Great light. Tripod and bag feel pretty cheap. For that price having a nice bag would be great. My biggest issue is the app. If the power is off 1-3 hours your phone disconnects and you can’t turn it on from your phone. Very inconvenient to have to get out of your tent and drop the tripod to be able to turn the light on.”
“The basic light is very solid. Bluetooth app is simple and easy to use. You have to manually turn the light on every evening using the power switch since it goes to sleep after 12 hours max and does not connect to BT unless woken up. No big deal at all. The head assembly itself is very well-engineered. At maximum brightness on white or amber it lights up your whole campsite - plenty bright enough. Red mode is dimmer but still very usable over a wide area. Red is absolutely key to preserve your night vision and minimize attracting insects. If at a campground, other campers may mistake this light for a facility LOL. I had one camper actually come up to me the next morning and tell me that!
Duration is about two evenings-worth even at medium-brightness amber and with only 2 quadrants lit. It takes a few hours to recharge from zero via USB-C.
The 4-telescoping-section tripod is OK, under-engineered compared to the head. Sections lock with the same type of mechanism found on trekking poles. Effective and simple. You can’t extend the three legs to different lengths so it will tilt on uneven ground. Most of the weight is at the head, but the legs are very wide so it should prove pretty stable barring high winds
The bag is “OK” and includes an integral pouch for USB cable and stakes. There are no holes in the tripod legs to put the stakes through, though. No guy lines were included. The bag is just big enough to fit the fully collapsed assembly. The bag is not cushioned, a big omission for a $249 investment for an overlanding application. If you get the optional motion sensor there is no provision or room to store it separately in the bag and the $50 motion sensor does not come with its own case or bag. You are on your own if you don’t keep it on the pole.
I really like the core light, if it was just about that, I would absolutely give it 5 stars. The tripod and bag are somewhat underwhelming for a $249 price. I have camera tripods with padded cases that are way nicer for under $50. You can buy an upgraded case from Devos for extra money but for $249 I believe you shouldn’t have to. This seems a bit blatant play for extra revenue.
It’s a great product but I feel it’s priced about twice as high as it should be for everything you get. I’d feel better about it if the tripod and bag were of similar quality as the superbly-engineered head. The light output and Bluetooth app is everything they say it is. I bought it on sale and still feel I overpaid, with a better tripod and bag it would be 4+ stars”
Thanks for the detailed review, Louis! We're glad to hear you found the LightRanger's core light performance, brightness levels, and Bluetooth app to be as solid and well-engineered as we intended especially in red mode for preserving night vision and minimizing bugs. Your feedback on the tripod, carry bag, and motion sensor storage is incredibly valuable, and we understand how important it is for the full kit especially at the $249 price point to match the premium quality of the light head. We're always working on improving our gear, and insights like yours help guide future upgrades.
“They have some unique products but most are vastly overpriced for what they are. Generally only shop when on sale and even then hardly feels worth it. Have not been disappointed with any product but certainly not blown away.”
“I used this light on 2 AZ hunts in an average of 50 degree weather. My biggest complaint is lack of run time. The max run time with pauses was just over 2 hours, with only some of that time at full illumination. I then did a test of full illumination with no pauses and it went dead at just under 2 hours. It recharged rather quickly but a challenge in the field with an animal down.”
“the light works perfectly, stand are exceptional the only reason why I give this rating that i got the heatsink cracked like a little damage on one of corners .. and that heatsink are really tough but assuming it has been handled by bad shipper and it wont happen so easy to get that metal cracked .. not going to blame Devos i just want to bring this up so you guys can negotiate with the shipper company or consider another one to make sure the customer get the item in perfect condition.”
“lights worked great but the length of the power not so good. the solar panels did not charge the light very well so I had to keep them plugged in to a power source. wish they lasted longer...”
“Lites work great. Although one of the thumb clamping nuts was not threaded correct and won’t tighten properly. Can you send me a replacement nut please?
Thank you, Ferdinand. Order #47182”
“I am not happy at all, purchased these lights as part of my first thing for camping and then a couple weeks later you guys release the new ones the 2000 version.”
“I was impressed with the light but the stand looks like it's made cheap. If the stand was made commercial grade, it would also weigh more and not tip over in the wind without the stakes..and maybe a motion sensor option.”
“Well I was really excited for this light, once it came in I turned it on it definitely did not shine the 60 feet like it says! As soon as I got on line a competitor had an ad for one double the brightness for an extra 50$. If you want a lot of light don’t just buy one your gonna need 2 !”
“Ordered the 30 watts minimalist 3 panel folding solar panel for the light ranger 1200. Received the solar panel and emailed asking if the charging cable came with it and was told that it does not. CS Rep did send me a set of cables and plug. Received an email about the said items above. Received a tracking number few days later. Click on the tracking number and nothing. Tried again few days later, still nothing. A week later, I check again and I saw a date that the label was created. Check few days again, but the label that was created is not saying, cancelled. That got me worried. So I emailed asking the status, no reply, but few days later I did finally received the cables and plug. I wished someone from CS would at least email me letting me know the status.”
“One light arrived damaged, the small lights on one side constantly blink. The battery life is not as long as I was hoping. Maybe 2-3 hours on a charge. Telescoping is nice. The lights have the potential to be awesome, mine just weren’t.”

“The Stand is sturdy and compacts down very nicely into the provided bag, the reason for 3 stars is that the clip/locking mechanism is very poorly designed, and the u/v shape of the pin does not allow for the locking pin to push through the hole to hold the light in place almost every time. because the base is sturdy im not as worried about the lamp staying on top of the pole when stood straight up.”
