“If I could give zero stars, I would.
Took out car insurance with them. All going fine.
Yesterday, an email arrived from them and said there was an issue with a payment due a couple of days ago. I didn't know there was even a problem. I've certainly not had a problem with any of my payments before. Couldn't get into my insurance account. Tried to check with my bank, but the bank app was down (as were the ones of other banks too - it was a nationwide issue - it was very highly publicised in online news sites, TV news channels etc). Couldn't go in branch either because it was - yup - a bank holiday. All I could do was try to sort it out the next day when the bank was open - not a bank holiday.
Had to go to work this morning. Managed to persuade my boss to let me have the afternoon off work as annual leave so I could ring One Quote Direct, and also call into my bank to find out what the issue was as I have never missed a car insurance payment. So only one day since they'd contacted me - and not even one half of a working day since they'd got in touch with me. Fair enough, right? Giving someone half a working day to get in touch. Get hold of the bank, find what the issue is, and if it was a payment that had not gone out, get onto the insurance website and sort it immediately.
But...before I even left work for the afternoon today, not even lunchtime, I get an email from One Quote Direct, saying they had cancelled my car insurance with immediate effect. What??? With only one half of a working day notice??? Not even five hours of a working day. For a payment that I hadn't even had time to find out what the issue was with it? They cancel your entire year's insurance with just half a working day's notice before you can even find out what the problem is. They simply had not allowed me sufficient time to find out what was going on.
No letter.
No email except the one dated 1st January bank holiday day.
No phone call.
No text.
Nothing.
Cancelled an entire year's worth of insurance just like that.
No apology, no assistance, nothing.
Left me stranded at work with no insurance on my car, and having lost half a day's annual leave I'd asked for to try to see what was going on. I never even got time to use the leave to find out what the issue was. And if the payment turned out to be late, then it wasn't even two working days late.
Seriously, how can a company even do that?
Needless to say, I'll be writing a complaint to them, with a copy going to the insurance ombudsman.
On the upside, my car insurance is due for renewal in three months, and over the past few weeks I've been inundated with other insurance companies offering me £200 a year less than One Quote Direct have been charging me, so I'm taking up one of their offers.
So don't waste your time and money. Go elsewhere unless you want a company cancelling your insurance with just a few hours of a working day notice. Because, quite simply, as a customer, you deserve better. I deserve better.
It's just a shame that it is only today that I've gone on Trustpilot and find the reviews of One Quote Direct are 92% NEGATIVE. It sums up this company completely.”
“These guys are total thieves. They will take your money, look for any thing to cancel your insurance and take a chunk of your money. The worst car insurance company I have dealt with. Stay away from them”
“Wouldn’t even give it one star!
How this company is still going after now reading reviews I don’t know!
My partner started his insurance up with them on the 22nd of November after two weeks received a phone call telling him he needs to provide, proof of address, log book, driving license and proof of no claims because apparently they had reason to believe he had owned this car for a longer period then he was stating? He the received an email and said if they didn’t receive the evidence by the 25th of December it would be cancelled. He gave them everything and took screenshots that he had provided this evidence to then have to ring on the 27th of December to be told it was going to be cancelled as they had only received 2 of the pieces of evidence.
Absolutely disgusting customer service and the company should be ashamed!
We wish we would have read reviews before taking the policy out with them as it seems like everybody is going through with this, a lesson truly learnt!”
“After making a call to Confirm my insurance was all complete once purchased online I was charged £11.58 from my mobile provider (Sky mobile) service charge 8 to call the customer service absolute rip off avoid calling them email is my advise”
“After "digital premium credit"the company they use to collect your monthly payments tried to take the monthly installment 1 day early I didnt have the money in the account to cover the installment.I tried to call them the next day but all you get is an automated payment system programed to take the missed payment plus £27.50 late payment fee. onequote then cancelled my policy 3 days later by email with no other corespondence. Like many others her I would give them a minus rating if I could.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY YOU WILL REGRET IT !!!!!!”
“Had a non fault claim where they wrote my car off, lost alot of money from this. When I contacted them to add my new car to the policy they charged me a 50quid admin charge to make the change. No online service”
“if i could give lower i would
they threatened to cancel my policy saying they were auditing me. After supplying days worth of documents they said it wasnt good enough and they was going to cancel my insurance the next day.
In the end i phoned the underwriters direct (markerstudy) and explained the situation and the documents that i had supplied.
The adviser at Marker was awesome and phone onequote and sorted the situation out on my behalf.
This firm is a SCAM adn should be avoided”
“Only rated 1 star as this is the lowest possible, i would like to rate them Zero or Lower
Complete rip off, without contacting any previous contact i received a letter say they were cancelling my policy.
When i phone they wanted photos of my driving licence, V5 book, DVLA summary and a utility bill, after submitting the same documtents days on end, they told me that i had supplied adicqute proof that i lived at my house.
One of the documents i supplied was my Criminal, Baring and Disclosure record..
AVOID These con artists
SCUM”
“If I could give 0 stars I would!!
Stay clear of this company!
My husband took out a policy with them in August and recieved a text on 4/9 saying that they had cancled his policy. He had recieved no communication from them prior to this. Apparently they had sent a letter explaining that they needed a reason as to why he had a 1 month gap between his last policy and this one. He recieved nothing! So he phoned to try and sort the issue as there was only a one month gap whilst he found a new insurance, they said that response was fone but they could not re instated his insurance and he would have to take out a new policy which was over £30 a month dearer than the original quote leaving him over £100 down on his deposit that they will not return and now they want a £20 admin fee for cancelling his insurance!? No customer service skills whatsoever!
STAY AWAY FROM THESE COWBOYS!!
I will be reporting this company!
Disgusting! Unprofessional and useless!
Thanks for NOTHING!”
“I am really not happy with my experience with trying to get my car insurance sorted with One Quote Direct!... In my 12 years of driving I have never had so much hassle when sorting my insurance. I paid the £70.35 deposit and was asked to send over a copy of my 9 years no claims within 14 days from the start date 23/06/2019.
On the 1st July I then received a sales phone call form One Quote asking me if I wanted to add Excess Protect cover, I agreed to this and was then sent the following new policy schedule, this showed that my cover doesn't start on the 23rd as to the above, but it will now start from the 1st July as show below:- I have since sent through a copy of my 9 years no-claims bonus, but I have now been told my premiums have increased by £101.71 please call to arrange payment before the 10/07/2019 or your policy will be cancelled.
I have just called up to ask why the dramatic increase?... I was told I need to pay £25.00 now and the rest is split over the monthly payments, increasing my payments to £61.00 a month! So I asked about cancelling my policy but I was told I am now in the cancellation period. However, due to the change as specified above, technically my policy did not start on the 23rd June as originally stated, but it started on the 1st July as stated on the above schedule, giving me 14 days from the 1st July and not the 23rd June.
I feel I am being held to ransom, as I have already paid the £70.35 deposit, but now you want another £25.00 paying now plus an increase in my monthly payments, then i am getting told I cannot cancel or I will have to pay a cancellation fee. However, as stated above, my policy didn't start till the 1st July and I should have 14 days from this point and not from the point of the 23rd June as to what I am getting told if I am to cancel my policy.”
“Complete cowboys. They will stall setting up your account for any reason. they will ask for more documentation than any other company. If you don't provide one immediately, they will try and cancel your policy. they will cancel your policy without warning, depsite the finance company they use advising otherwise. They also tried to setup a recurring card payment AFTER my policy was cancelled, for the same amount as the regular Direct Debit. It was only after I noticed what they were doing that I realised I'd used them several years ago, and they'd tried a similar tactic then. It seems they're in the habit of cancelling policies extremely easily, and retaining the deposit. AVOID!”
“Disgusting company that rips people off!! Do not use this company unless you want to be ripped off then ignored. Tried ringing to speak to them, on hold for over an hour and still no answer. This company is a disgrace and have been reported to the independent watchdog for fraud.”
“The worst insurance ever
Always problem when you contact them with simple thinks. Very bad experience on the phone about 25 minute and then they cancelled my policy because, change the address costs me a £58
Customer service v bad not v helpful and not cheap”
“Shocking customer service and an insurance company that I had to spend hours on the phone(at my expense) with just to sort out their mess. Then to top it off they told the finance company that I was deceased!!”
“Got insurance for a car i was buying but sale didnt go through.
Was still charged for cover even though i never bought car.
On top of this they fleeced me of other small amounts like for example day on cover for a car i dont own.
So many rip off companys about now and biggest laugh is they are all registered with the Fca.”
“I was very disappointed with the service. I got my insurance online which was quite expensive anyway because they said my car is expensive. I gave all details online including 2 claims I had 4 years ago. next day they called me and asked me for £300 more because of these claims. I was furious and asked them to cancel my policy. They deducted around £50 before giving me refund which I still haven't received. Staff were rude and were not listening. I will never recommend their service to anyone as they have hidden charges.”
“I've lost almost £200 in a month I've never met an insurance company like this they cancelled my policy and took a cancellation fee as well. Please take my word for it and stay well clear of this insurance company”
