Today I went to pick up a Britax car seat (46 mile round trip) which was rated 'as new' and 'accident free', 'only used by grandparents a couple of times'. I went to view it & it looked ok so I bought it. When I got home I took the cover off (which had obviously been washed as it smelt all over of some sort of strong detergent?!) It had a rip in the cushioning and was very mottled/stained. The car seat was also abit dirty with crumbs etc. under the cover and in the crevices. I contacted the lady that sold it to me to let her know I was quite disappointed and felt I had been mislead, and asked if I could have a refund. The lady told me the seat might have been picked by a child.. then told me it wasn't like that when she sold it to me and I had probably ripped it myself. The lady refused to refund me instantly and said she wont take it back.

Hi I really wanted to share my experience of trying to selling items via Gumtree. I would advise no one to sell any valuable items via your site. It was one of the worst experiences I have had using an online app. I am dumbfounded by the amount of con-artists, scammers and fraudsters that are on there trying to scam money out of me... I was trying to sell my new i-phone and have never experienced something so draining and actually one of the worst customer experiences. I can't believe that you still have not put any measures in place to protect customers or brought in security tools to authentic your users. I have had over 100 messages and over 90% on them trying every trick in the book to get money from me whether that be asking for my bank details, personal paypal info, share my work screen, passwords, googlehangout, credit card info... It's an absolute joke and it's lucky i'm switched on and don't fool for this type of crazy. I would imagine thousands of your customers are getting robbed.. You have a duty of care to put measures in place to protect customers???? It's really not difficult to authentic your users.... Explain yourselves????? Is it greed.....???

I had one successful sale but with the further two items I am becoming very suspicious of the standard ‘ is this item still for sale ‘ message relayed , which on being confirmed never gets a further reply . It’s free but only because they know they will draw many into making a further payment to boost (?) advert !

A puppy was advertised on gumtree which when we went to see it, was not the one advertised. Clearly there is no vetting people wishing to advertis.which I understand. However PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT PAY ANY MONEY for a pet until you have seen it. We have hustle had a terrible experience. Sorry gumtree but things advertising needs to be reviewed.

I hired a removalist, Mike from Penrith/castle hill. Worst removalist I have ever experienced. Didn't even finish moving my stuff. So I decided to put an add in gumtree telling people that the add was to Save your money and protect you from this dodgy removalist. Gum tree took my add down and said I couldn't do that. Where is the justice in their site for people like this I argued. Gumtree don't have recall for us people when we get ripped off. Very unhappy with the site.

I have been using gumtree every now and then when i had to sell something. Today i realised they are SHARING MY NUMBER with in time frame of 10mins i received at least 6 phone calls to sell PIP, compensation etc after posting my ad. I started live chat and they said they have no control over who obtains number, which turned out to be a lie. Firstly they state in little writing(terms of use) they share data with 3rd party and my number was added to database for tele marketing, which was told by the guy trying to convince me i had a accident and i should go ahead with compensation claim. All in all people its not worth paying for a service that sells your details for more money.

What an absolute con. Placed an advert advertising my lounge suite for sale and was given the choice of a free advert or paying £23.99 for a 2 week featured advert. Paid the £23.99 expecting my advert to be somewhere at the top of the page ! Right and Wrong ! Yes it would be placed at the top of the page but what Gumtree don't tell you when they take your £23.99 is that yes, it will be at the top of the page but that page number could be randomly Number 165 !!!!! Pity they don't make that totally clear before taking your money. What a scam

Alot of scammers on there. Gumtree do not see to do anything to help i.e removing fraudulent adverts. Report it and nothing happens. It should be renamed Scamtree

1- unreliable staff, they change all the time, one salesperson even scammed me, by selling the product I didn't ask, then he said I will give it to you, by cash bring it to your door!!!! he meets me but he didn't bring it, I even pay his restaurant!! total scam around £3703 2- They said you will have 2 month holiday, because of quarantine, but they send my invoice to collection agency!!!!!!! 3- I post advert many years suddenly they say you have to post in other section, then delete my advert.... 4- My add deleted without any notice and they put in other section, I figure out that there is no client, then we find out advert are somewhere else.

Seller was quite cocky when approached and even labelled me as being rude, and unresponsive even though i was being polite the whole time. He even went on to say that i didn't show up even though i came back twice. What a load of rubbish.

Gumtree remove bad reviews so no point in reviews. Ebay do the same..they remove negative feedback.... no surprise here Ebay owns Gumtree.... the whole point of reviews and negative feedback is to warn other buyers to dishonest sellers and trady's... So don't waste your time... just ring the bad sellers and wake them up at 2am... dial 1831 infront of their number and they wont be able to see your caller i.d leave it 15 minutes till they just get back to sleep and wake them up again... lol.. revenge is a dish best served cold,, lol

A lot of time wasters , as most people not serious. If you are offering a service you are better off getting better-based clients.

I bought a bike from gumtree and the seller said the bike is 1 years old. The chain broke after a few rides and the seat was the wrong size fitted to the bike so it always wobbled when you sat on it. we spoke to Stows and they said the wrong seat has been fitted to this bike and over-tightening it has damaged the hole in which the seat rests so it can't even be replaced.
