“Generally a good and well-organised trip - in particular the arrangements for the opera worked very smoothly and our tickets were excellent. While the hotel was comfortable and the staff were very obliging and charming, for three of our five nights there, there was a very loud concert in the adjoining square with crowds, noise etc. until after midnight. The location of the hotel was excellent, however, very close to all the main areas, so I suppose the concerts are the price we pay for that! As regards the trip to Cinque Terre, this was rather disappointing. It was all a bit rushed and ran late, and we had very little time in each location apart from the final town, Portovenere. When we got to the restaurant for our pre-booked lunch, there didn't seem to be a booking for us and we had to wait around for about 30 mins while the staff decided whether they could accommodate us! Finally our (excellent) guide, Luca, physically lifted some tables from outside, and 4 chairs, and the 4 in our group got seated. However, the meal was very disappointing after the long wait - a plate of pasta, a small piece of fish and potato, and dessert. I noticed that other diners there seemed to have a more varied meal and that was very annoying! So while our guide did his best, I would NOT recommend that particular trip and I would suggest that you try a different operator. As the main purpose of our trip was the opera in Torre del Lago I am happy that that worked so well, I am giving the trip an overall good review but the excursion could have been a lot better. “I rang having seen their website and explained that I wanted to take my husband, for his birthday, to the opera in Verona and also to visit Lake Garda. I gave them a list of requirements and they were extremely helpful. I had never heard of this company before, but hoped after the telephone conversations and reviews from other customers that they would be able to come up with a good trip. I was NOT Disappointed, the whole trip was absolutely fantastic, transfers, hotels, boat trip etc. etc. My husband loved it with beautiful hotels and lovely seats at the opera. I would highly recommend this organisation to all of my friends and would definitely use them again.”

“All ok but if you are going to the Palio make sure you pay extra for the seats, the ones given by the company are completely inadequate and mean you cannot see the start or finish of the race. I thought this aspect was not clear in the information you get from the company although when we have complained they deny this. I emailed whilst we were away to see if the could do anything to help with the view we had, all I got was a phone number to ring of the person they buy the tickets from. I rang him and we ended up paying €1000 for tickets on top of what was already an expensive holiday, we paid as we are unlikely to be able to afford this again. I doubt we would book with them again, I feel once they have your money they’re not then very interested.”

Good morning Julie, Thank you for your feedback on your recent trip to Verona and the Siena Palio. Following on from our previous email conversation, as confirmed then, the original paperwork sent through to you does state the full range of viewing positions that you are able to upgrade to. Indeed all of our other clients chose to do an upgrade so that they could see more of the race. The paperwork emailed through to you at enquiry stage does state that the Mossa (start and the end of the race) cannot be seen from the terrace viewing position. I am glad that our guide on the day was able to provide you with an option that worked for you, and hope that you had a wonderful time both at the Verona opera and the Siena Palio. “excellent. well planned, Best seats at the opera in Verona. very good choice of hotels. will use again. FYI We arranged to stay at Villa Le Maschere which is a 16th century villa, now a 5star Spa hotel near Florence. It really is very good indeed for relaxing after a strenuous tour”

“We had a great trip to Verona and Lake Garda and thank you for organising everything so well. The transfers were all punctual and pleasant, and the opera was a great experience. Two comments: (1) The tickets given to us for the opera were consecutive numbers, but on opposite sides of the central aisle (even numbers on one side, odd on the other, admittedly a strange system!) Fortunately, with the assistance of an usher who just groaned with familiarity with the problem when we asked for help, we found a German couple on the other side of the aisle who had the same problem, so we sorted it out between us. (2) our room in the Hotel Giulietta & Romeo was very small, and quite tight for two people; I don't know how it compares with other hotels you use, but if we went back I would certainly look for something a little more comfortable. The staff in both hotels in which we stayed were friendly and helpful. So thank you overall for a wonderful short break!”

“Our trip to see Aida was most enjoyable. Jet2 is a very efficient airline and our flights both ways were on time. Our car at Verona was a little late but not too late to cause concern. The Hotel Accademia was first class. We were lucky to have a double room that had a door out onto the central terrace which we used to sit in the sun and read. The breakfast buffet was first class and the staff very helpful. The only downside was that our superior double room had twin beds while we would have preferred a double. I am not sure f we were able to select this but the booking form did not give a description of the bed arrangement. We were unfortunate that the end of our night at the opera was rained off. Our gold seats were ideal as they were at the front of the second tier which meant we had lots of legroom. Our only suggestion was that the hotel could have monitored the weather forecast and advised us of the possibility of rain and suggested we should have taken an umbrella or rainwear. As many people stayed at the hotel while attending the opera this would have pre-warned us of the possibility of rain. There was no sign of rain at the beginning of the evening with blue sky and sun but the storm came in very quickly. We gathered that this happens quite often so we were surprised that the hotel did not warn us of this possibility and you might want to suggest to the hotel that they issue warnings about possible rain. Apart from this we loved the hotel and the opera seating and the transfer from airport to hotel and would definitely recommend your company to our friends.”

“Organisation great, hotel fine and with very helpful staff. A good position for exploring in a friendly city. Transfers on time although a-mix up with names on the return. Arena seats gave a first class view of proceedings, the arena setting was very impressive. Thunderstorms meant the last act was cancelled but a risk you take with any open air event. We plan to return.”

“Opera was wonderful, even the expected thunderstorm held off!!! Travel & Transfer arrangements excellent. Il Sogno di Giulietta, comfortable beds, very poor breakfasts, (in room doesn`t really work) Indifferent staff. Palazzo Ravizza, querky but fun. Good staff & breakfast, very hard bed, required topper to sleep well. Garden requires more attention, flowers etc.”

“We have just retuned from our short opera break in Verona. It was superb!! The care and attention to detail from Weekend A La Carte was second to none. We were given all the information we needed prior to leaving, which included our itinerary and plentiful information about what to do and see in Verona. Our hotel was central and altogether super, with comfortable rooms and friendly staff. The seats for the opera were the best in the amphitheatre and the opera was wonderful. Taxis to and from the hotel and airport were timely and both our inward and outward flights were booked for suitable departure times. We had an unforgetable few days and would like to thank all the team members who had put so much thought and effort into making this a luxurious and memroable holiday.”

“We had a perfect holiday. The Athena hotel is stylish and welcoming. The views from our rooms on the eight floor were stunning. The hotel food was excellent. The seats for the Palio arranged by Shirley were front row Grandstand Mossa; exhilarating. Paulo guided us around Siena at some pace; we saw so much more than just meandering. Thank you.”

“We have just returned from an absolutely brilliant holiday in Verona. Italian Short Breaks organised the whole holiday for us and everything was perfect! We stayed at the Hotel Academia which was lovely - the staff were so friendly and helpful and the hotel supply cold drinks in the lounge during the day which were extremely welcome as the temperature outside had reached 38 degrees!! We went to see Aida at the Arena which was truly an unforgettable experience and a magnificent spectacle! All the transfers were exactly on time and the luxurious air-conditioned cars were also greatly appreciated! Everything went absolutely according to plan and I would highly recommend this company to anyone who would like a short luxury break.”
