“I recently had battery and power problems with relatively new (but out of warranty) and costly upgraded Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (Core i7 Wi-Fi 256 GB 16 GB) laptop, a problem known by Microsoft. The Microsoft Store response was that because it was out of warrenty, they would not accept it as a trade in (that is, giving me credit towards a different computer sold by Microsoft), but would accept it as a turn-in, meaning that if I turned it in I could buy the identical computer, with no warranty, if I paid an additional (approximately $500 plus tax; there was no assurance that this identical model would not experience the same problem. Though I liked the Surface Pro 4, I had no desire to pay several hundred dollars knowing the new machine could have the same problems, and absolutely no warranty. I contacted a number of shops to see about fixing the problem and responses were either they didn't work on the Microsoft "sealed case" Surface Pro 4, or said the cost would be essentially half or more of the original cost of the model I had Outlets I contacted about selling to (similar to Jay Brokers) either said they didn't accept Surface Pro 4s or offered pennies on the dollar. My other option would be to sell the Surface Pro 4 on CraigsList for (again) pennies on the dollar if there was a buyer, or sell it on eBay "as is" or "Buyer beware", neither would I do, passing the problem on to someone else. Jay Brokers, which I found randomly, responded, noting that "It's a bit of a gamble for me..." with the given symptoms, and said that they be a buyer at a certain price. I thought the price Jay Brokers offered was fair (and what I could use towards a (non-Microsoft Surface) replacement laptop. Maybe I could have haggled with Jay Brokers for Ithan try to haggle for a little more, in part because I was including a power cord which could possibly be used with another computer, I accepted the offer, and chose (rather than cash) to receive an Amazon gift card, which arrived one working day after Jay Brokers received and checked the Surface Pro 4. (I won't post how much I was offered in part because Jay Brokers, like others, makes offers based on a variety of circumstances, and what applied to me might not apply to others.) Jay Brokers help, and communication, was excellent, they responded timely, they listened to what I said, and they explained reasoning for their offer clearly, and, with hindsight, I believe their offer was much more than fair for me, certainly better than Microsoft's options.
