“Fantastic service”

“A hinge in a corner unit in the kitchen of our 13-year-old new-build home ceased to work due, it seemed, to metal fatigue: the metal surrounding one of the screw anchor points sheered away. A friend who knew the proprietor of the original kitchen suppliers/fitters asked where a replacement hinge might be obtained. Answer: that hinge manufacturer isn't around any more. So next, a visit to our local hardware supplier, where we showed them the broken hinge. "Ah, no. They aren't made any more. Try this." So we bought a pair of the "fits-all-cupboards" hinges, brought them home and no: they didn't fit, this despite the fact that our unit, with its fold-back door, must be replicated several hundred thousand times in kitchen installations throughout the UK. So we took the "fits-all-but-not-yours" hinges back. Got a Screwfix catalog instead. As the world's biggest hardware supplier, Screwix was bound to have a set of corner cupboard hinges. And did it? No. Nothing remotely like what we were after. We'd now spent nearly a month, messing around, trying to get a corner cupboard door to close. In sheer frustration, I got out a small magnifying glass to see if I could read the name of the manufacturer on the defunct hinge. And there it was: "Danco". Although now no longer in business -- or so we'd been assured -- I decided to do an Internet search for a "Danco-like" product. Maybe some other firm had taken over. Within a couple of seconds, Kitchen Fittings Direct came up in the search result. Within 10 seconds later, I had on my computer screen: Danco Clip On Pie Cut Corner Hinge. 1,910 in stock. Far from no-longer-being-made, and even further from being the-company-that-made-these-is-no-longer-around, here instead is KFD with not merely the item itself but darn near 2,000 of them in stock and ready to go. Un-be-liev-able. I ordered the hinge and clip-on plate -- ordered 2 pairs in fact. They arrived three days later by DPD courier from Ireland (we're in the northwest of England.) They fitted -- exactly -- the positions where their predecessors had been. The installation task took just 10 minutes. And the cupboard door now finally, finally closed again . . .. Moral of the story: (1) never, ever, trust an "expert"; (2) never, ever trust anyone, no matter how well-meaning, until you've done the basic research yourself; and (3) put your faith in Kitchen Fittings Direct. This really is one company which truly knows its business.”

“the sink had to be drilled for taps. You should make it clear how hard the surface actually is. My plumber used 2 hole drills and a lot of strength to drill it. Nice looking but no plumber will want to come back”
