“I have had a Mozo account about 6 weeks. I opened it to be able to transfer funds to Coinbase. Over the weekend just after Christmas an acquaintance transferred £1500 to my Monzo account from their Chase UK account. I went to upload it to my Coinbase exchange account and Monzo stopped the transfer and froze my account.
No explanation was offered. I was asked what the money was being used for. As I don't believe in banks dictating what you do with money in your account and this isn't China, I told Monzo to F/O.
They then spent a week harrassing me for information which I refused to give them, then decided they were going to close my account (something I told them I planned to do anyway after my balance had been transferred). Why does it take 2-4 weeks to transfer my balance when everybody knows transfers take seconds?
I predict Monzo and any other bank that dictates to its customers, will go out of business. It's not surprising cryptocurrency is so popular.”
“I applied for a account with photo ID. A week later I followed up asking what was going on. They told me to take a photo with my ID to my face. The next email was the below. No explanation, they even say they will not accept any applications from me. The treatment is very unfair. There are reviews saying it's fast, efficient to start an account but it's not. If you bite back and ask of the delay, it seems they just block you from getting an account. Pretty unethical. Please refrain from using this bank. Whoever is sitting behind that chair is making judgement calls on anyone that complains.”
