If you are a treadesman/woman, you have to apply for "leads". If you get shortlisted by the customer, you will be charged regardless weather you get the job or not. Even if the "lead" does not answer the phone, emails or texts, you still get charged! The customer can shortlist upto 5 tradesmen per job & MyBuilder encourage them so shortlist lots of tradesmen. One lead cost me £28+VAT. MyBuilder will charge this amount for upto 5 tradesmen. So they make £168 & either 1 person (or sometimes none) will get the job. This is why they multi-millionares, at the expense of people just trying to make a living. I started adding a note in my messages saying "please only shortlist me if you are serious as I will be charged a fee as soon as you shortlist me". MyBuilder told me I can not do this & have now closed my account. I want to take legal action against then. Can anyone help?

From a tradesman point of view it’s a site which encourages the cheap and nasty . They allow up to 5 tradesmen to be shortlisted for one job and each are charged wheather you win the job or not. Customers want jobs doing for peanuts not realising that tradesmen are charged . I also think that the customer should be charged a small fee to use the site as this would filter out the time waisters.

The refund policy on shortlist fees is extremely strict and the customer service is terrible. I recently had a customer shortlist me the second I expressed interest in a job, before I had chance to send a basic rates/availability message. I sent my usual message and with no other chance to communicate in the day she just told me later on she had found someone else, no explanation, no other traders interested in the job or shortlisted for it. I complained to the site and they were totally obstinate and uncaring about my perspective. I am a sole trader and not doing massive jobs so the shortlist fees are already pretty high, and if I'm going to get shortlisted and rejected because the customer found someone on a different site, I'm making significant losses. If the customer hasn't used the site to get their builder, surely I shouldn't have to pay the site in that particular case? The customer service person was not sympathetic and just churned out policies instead of having a conversation. They obviously don't care at all about tradespeople and just in it for the money. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they created fake jobs and shortlisted everyone interested before not replying to any in order to cream a bit extra from tradespeople. I'm sure they can't be any use at preventing poor trades or cowboys from using the site, so I imagine it's not good for customers either. In addition to this the shortlist fees seem to be calculated in an unclear and sometimes illogical way. Based on items the customer does or doesn't tick one person listing a job could find a shortlist fee triple that of someone who didn't add as much detail for the exact same job.

Used My Builder as a trader on and off for a number of years. Found to be more of a con than anything else with numerous "Leads" turning out to be dead ends with phone numbers not working or never able to contact the "customer" and still being charged for the lead. Sceptical as to if a number of these are actually real people or just put on the site to generate income for My Builder.

Mybuilder take your money, offer multiple leads. 1 job out of 4 leads had to pay for all and the customer lied about pre existing damage to a windowsill that clearly had damage painted over and requested a refund for a whole plastering job!!!!! There are cowboy builders there are also cowboy customers. Nothing in protection from these customers. Trades STAY AWAY AS THIS SITE ENCOURAGES THE CHEAP AND NASTY CUSTOMERS - YOU WILL PAY DEARLY.

I registered with my builder after being hounded by a rep. I completed all fields and after three days of an average of 2-3 Leeds I got shortlisted now at this point you pay for getting shortlisted and too access the Number of the client £18+vat. Confused I said but I only received your interest on my App today she stated the job was completed 2 months ago confused I contact Mybuilder who state its a lees? I said how can it be a lees when the job was completed Two months Previously?? There response was it’s a leed at least you got shortlisted! Shocking is an understatement SCAMMERS BEWARE ANYONE!!!!! Avoid mybuilder.com like a plague I was unfortunate as I advertised in my builder.com to renovate my flat in London completely. I chose 2-3 times my builder.com to find a tradesman. Every time they were absolutely awful. Everything they did was faulty and awful. For example, I write about one of the builders I chose via them to renovate my flat. Their job was awful. there was leaking from plumbing windows etc. The flat downstairs ceiling came down nearly killed people. This was only a part of the problems there was all sort of problem with tiling painting etc. They were so dangerous and irresponsible. I wrote a review on my builder. The company and my builder came back to me promising me to sort out the problems. They superficially sorted out the downstairs flat promising there would not be any leak without coming to my flat. After few weeks leak started again in downstairs I contacted my builder.com to reinstate my review they declined to do that. They told me that when you leave review It can not be amended. I told him if it can not be amended why did you remove my review they did not have any answer. They are a partner with the traders and they are obviously on their side. They support and advertise for the novice. Lots of traders on their website have poor skills. They advertise on my builder as they are not able to get a job through recommendation. Please do not use my builder.com.
