Frustrating to use on a mobile phone, have to click on each picture in turn of the wedding list just to find out what on earth it is and then to discover that the item is already sold out. Was about to give up and just put some cash in a envelope. Fortunately I tried it on a PC instead where at least hovering the mouse over a picture gave useful information. Please consider redesigning so the sold out items are distinguishable without having to click each item on a mobile phone, or just move them to the bottom of the list. Better still, just provide text information in list that is easy to view and scroll on a mobile phone.

Had a v hard time actually paying in the checkout. PayPal kept freezing or restarting when I was partway through the process. Probably took about 8 tries to get through with my cars. Patchwork was good up until then.

Hi Giles, Thanks for your feedback. I'm sorry that you had an issue on the PayPal site whilst checking out with a card. The "pay as a guest form" on the PayPal website does include quite a lot of detail and we appreciate this isn't the quickest or easiest checkout. For future reference, we do offer a very simple and fast checkout via card with our alternative payment partner Stripe - it seems as though your friends didn't choose to link it on their Patchwork, which is a shame, but it is available to all our customers as an alternative to PayPal. The payment area is super glitchy, keeps saying phone number format incorrect but it does not tell you what format it would like. Took about 6 tries

What difficult site. I had great trouble to pay for a wedding experience. I had to go to customer enquiries but they didn’t make it very clear so it was trial and error in the end!! your e-Mail reply looked suspicious to open. Hopefully I will not have to use you again!

Hi Elaine, I'm sorry to read your review and to hear about your negative experience using the PayPal checkout. PayPal is brilliant for people using their PayPal account but less convenient if you are paying by card. We do offer an additional specific card payment option which is extremely fast, easy and simple but not all of our couples choose to use it - as in this case. The email we sent was in fact the reply via the LiveChat platform which you used to contact us initially, so all perfectly safe and proper :) Best wishes, Rosie

Great idea! Very welcoming way of being able to discreetly contribute financially to my friends wedding based on what I can afford. However, a conversion rate would have been extremely helpful before proceeding with payment. There's no indication that my small $40NZD donation would end up being $58.66NZD. Being on a very tight budget I probably won't use this type of service again unless there is clear transparency. I'm curious if my friend will receive my donation in full (less $1.21 off shore service margin fee) as she is also in NZ? Or will she only receive $40NZD as that was the option I intended to pay?

Hi Riwhia, Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review of Patchwork and we are happy to hear you enjoyed using our platform to gift your friends. Your friends have actually set up their gift registry to collect money in US dollars, so that was why there was some confusion. The currency conversion from US to NZ dollars does look correct based on today's rates. Perhaps it could be made clearer at some point that you were in fact sending $40 US dollars and not $40 NZ dollars. This is something I will look at immediately. Hi there - thanks for your feedback. It would be really great to know which part of using Patchwork you found difficult as we'd be happy to hear how we might improve. However Patchwork was designed with simplicity and UX very much at the forefront so we don't usually hear this!

Very difficult to process the payment, unless you wished to leave personal details, or pay through PayPal. Experience left me feeling frustrated, and irritated

I found the site very difficult to use. The headings us, wedding etc. need to be emphasised. I’m not the only one. I didn’t know registry included a request for donation. I suspect a lot of people will miss this. Not impressed

It was not made clear that the items I chose to gift were part payments, since I discovered it was possible to select 2 of 'bed', for example. Not very satisfying, when one wants to feel one has given a personalised wedding gift. I did not find the payment part of the site easy to navigate either. It would have helped if it automatically recognised which country I was in. Other items requested, e.g. landline and mobile numbers, seemed superfluous but were required. It took me several times to pay. After 4 attempts to pay by credit card, I gave in and used Paypal.

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We're sorry that the concept was a bit unclear. Patchwork is a way of asking friends and family to come together to fund large or expensive items that may be out of reach for individuals to purchase by themselves. So it's a way that the couple can still have what they'd love, without their guests feeling out of pocket! We don't design each page though, so all creators are free to do things their own way and edit their own gift lists in the way that best fits their wedding day and their guests. As regards the payment - your friends have chosen to link their patchwork to PayPal, therefore all payments will be made on the PayPal site and with PayPal checkout and security processes. Clunky website that is awkward to use. Unclear which of many options is the correct one for leaving messages. Absolutely hate using this website and wish our PTA would stop using it.
