I am currently on the level 3 course in make up artistry and it is terrible!! You have to complete written modules at home before you have even done any practical training. Answering questions about subjects you have no idea or experience in. When you ask for help they tell you to copy from the study guide so basically learning nothing. They rush you to book onto the practical days and if, even in an emergency, you can't attend they make you pay £50 to reschedule. On the practical days, which out of the whole course over 9 months you only have 10 practical days... The tutors are nice but don't teach you anything. They need re training in up to date make up.. They don't show you their skills on a model.. Wonder why?! The products and tools they use are really basic. My make up is better quality and the other girls said the same. A few of the girls have left the course and wasted all that money because it's just not worth it. Pay for a make up lesson from a few make up artists or watch YouTube; you will learn a hell of a lot more and won't cost half as much!! For 3 & a half grand you don't even get a kit. They send you nothing through the post etc so how can they justify that amount??

I enjoyed the courses I attended with the beauty academy, but the certificate received at the end isn't a recognised qualification as I have since been informed of

Booked a course for VTCT Level 2 & 3, I paid for the course over the phone before confirming dates, dates were then emailed to me and I could not attend them due to being pregnant and the dates being too late into my pregnancy, I cancelled the course and requested a refund within 4 hours of paying for the course on the basis I could not attend the dates due to pregnancy (which they were fully aware of at the time of booking) and was told no, after fighting my case I was refunded minus a 10% admin fee (£150!!!) £150 for doing absolutely nothing! The MD was also very rude and tried his best to be patronizing! Would not recommend!!!

Indian Head Massage Course : Tutor read verbatim from work book and did not seem to expect any of the students to have studied the content before the course. Felt course was expensive for input received.

I took the complete make up course back in January and i have to day that it was a total waste of money and time. The tutor was lovely, but i cannot say i have learned to do a proper make up on a client, the most disappointing thing was the eye make up. So sad that i paid lots of money for it and it was totally not worth it!

The training was ok. The make-up lesson was particularly disappointing for non-Caucasian students, as very little of the makeup could be used on them. Once you'd finished the course, you had to find all of your own models, who needed to be available on a weekday (X3) so that you could do your practical test. I just couldn't get people who a) wanted all of the treatments on a particular day (e.g. one was reluctant to have false lashes put on, but was ok for the other treatments) and b) who were free for an entire working day (most of the people I know are in full-time employment). I even offered to pay them for the day off, but in the end it was the combination of treatments that put them off. The literature that Beauty Academy post on their website, doesn't indicate that you will have to sort out your models and all of your cosmetics (including wax pots and thermal mitts). Although I scored in the late 80s and 90s (%) for all of my theory, I had to give up. If I do resume training again, it definitely won't be with the Beauty Academy.

Amazing training at The Beauty Academy Leeds. Jess my tutor on the day was fantastic, she made me feel welcome and confident in Classic eyelash extensions.

Not enough training most of it was going through the fire drill and pictures of nail fungus in a book the teachers were reading out to us. This took most of the day up and them demonstrating. Then we had about 2 hours to practice on a fake hand to do acrylic. The teacher kept making us all feel uncomfortable as a lot of us was finding it difficult to get the acrylic thick enough to use, what do you expect when you give us no practical time. This course at this accademy was the biggest waste of money I have ever ever spent. It was more talking to us that showing us and helping us on how to do acrylic nails. Load of crap

Had a fantastic course for manicure, pedicure, facials and also waxing but horrendous course for lashes. All imformation given was wrong and when calling the office after the course, I was told it was just a misunderstanding. You can't misunderstand what's in black and white course notes! Wouldn't train with you again as you cost me clients.

Just completed level 2 beauty with the beauty academy. I am a mature student so I was a bit apprehensive. Best thing I have ever done and I will be back to do my level 3!

I attended a one day manicure and pedicure course with the Beauty Academy which I absolutely loved and learnt so much. A few weeks later I attended a UV gel nails extensions course and felt that a one day course was not suitable to learn all of the Health and Safety and technique aspects required to be able to go out as a qualified technician and complete sets of nails on clients. There are so many aspects to using nail extensions that one day cannot possibly allow a newcomer to learn, digest and feel confident to carry this treatment out on people. I left the course overwhelmed and sadly it has put me off pursuing being a nail technician as a change of career, which is hugely disheartening. The tutor was very friendly but at times I felt so confused but she was patient and supported me throughout. I don't feel like I've earnt my qualification and without paying out a fortune in supplies and insurance to go out and practice on friends, I can't imagine how I will build up my confidence and technique to start this up as a business which I was so looking forward to doing. I seriously think the course should be offered over at least two days, especially as it costs well over £150.

I have to be honest and say I felt the course was a complete waste of time! The teacher spent most of the morning discussing what other courses people had booked and what content was in those courses. We were not shown how to do anything it was more a case of just get on with it, and she showed no interest while we were doing the partners nails or even the final result or quality of work. Whenever I asked a question about techniques or tools she would reply its all in the booklet, which is most unhelpful while trying to attempt something for the first time. For example, she told us to trim the cuticles of our partner, I expressed my concern at doing it as Ive never done it before and asked her to show me and she made my partner bleed! She then just walked away without so much an apology to the girl or even offer a plaster of advice on health & safety / hygiene precautions & what we would do if we did the same in a salon. My partner was most upset about it, left sitting there bleeding! Some of us swapped email addresses and all those girls have since said they feel they have learnt more watching youtube video tutorials than on the actual training day, which is a shame as we were all so keen and eager to learn. The teacher seemed like she didnt care less and was most uninspiring and demotivating.

I trained in manicure and pedicure including luxuary treatments along with gel and acrylic extensions also. The course was fantastic. I was trained by Gigi and she was brilliant! So knowledgable and encouraging. No question was too silly, you can be shown over and over again until you're confident. The support is fantastic if you're wanting a kick start in the nail industry I would highly recommend and I will definitely be back for more courses in the future.
