“I placed an order in February for bare rooted strawberries. They arrived in March with no green showing at all, but I followed the instructions in the package. Mid April and they are still dead as a dodo! I spoke to customer service on 25th March and a very nice lady said she would send out a replacement order. 12th April and still no replacement order has arrived, so I rang again and the man said they were due to be sent out on 16th April - 3 weeks after my call!!!! So I've cancelled the order and asked for my money back - let's see how long I have to wait for that. The redcurrant bush that I ordered is just a stick but I will persevere and hope I don't have to ask for a refund on that too! I definitely won't be ordering through T&M again. I'm not happy with the condition of the plants I've received or the speed of orders being sent out.”
“order no. W12311187
Aquileia like a tiny spider. Lavender head of a 5pence /1/4ins root
Fuchsia was fine, as bought in a pot.
after 3 weeks, they not much better. Rubbish plants. Not worth the money. wouldn't recommend”
“Aquilegia like tiny spiders.............
Lavendar plants, Head like a 5 pence piece with less than half inch root!!.
Penstemon, garden ready, not too bad
Best of bad bunch, Fuschia, which was in a pot. Disappointing.
No i wouldnt buy from you again.”
“Purchased a range of vegetable seeds from Thomson-Morgan. Tomato(yes I know this is a fruit) packet only contained six seeds. Broad beans 50 beans in pack 20 had been eaten by something leaving many tiny holes in them. 30 planted only 19 germinated. Peas 12 germinated out of pack of 50. Will never purchase again from them. Also told, whether this is true, that Suttons are part of Thomson-Morgan. Have found Mr Fothergill's seeds to produce much better results and there are many more seeds in the packets.”
“Bought Bumper Garden Collection a total of 72 plugs ( smallest plugs I have ever seen ) arrived on time, out of the 72 plugs I found that 13 plugs were crushed and dead.
Recommend you buy from your local shop”
“Thompson & Morgan charge £4.99 delivery per plant on Wowcher and Groupon. They set the delivery cost WITH Wowcher and Groupon. So if you buy 6 plants, you’ll pay 6 delivery fees. It’s a scam.”
“Ordered Strimmer in July for my 82 year old Father as it said it was in stock, they took my payment and then I receive an email stating they expect delivery of stock 5th September, I was furious as ordered new one because previous strimmer(same make and model) less than 12 months old and was told they would be sending replacement battery despite battery showing as fully charged, email regarding this stating middle of September. Updated email 15th September saying your order has been dispatched only to find out this is not the case apparently it is sat on a shelf waiting to be picked and packed, then picked up by Whistl who have no clue where it is so waiting for them to pick it up and pass on to Hermes to deliver so at this rate it will have Christmas wrapping paper on it. Company DISGRACEFUL, Customer service DISGRACEFUL”
“Think we've all been missled by the name Thompson-Mogan instead of Thompson AND Morgan! I shall now inform the original company and also complain to e-bay, which is where I made my purchase from. I thought it strange that T and M were selling on that site!”
“Order 2x 12mixed alpine perennial plants arrive 2weeks late and received a box with 22 plants in one lot of 12plants all the same and another lot of8 plants the same and4 the same in total 18 of one plant and 4 of another they were damaged and all over the place in the box tried to complain only to be told it’s a lucky dip and if I return them I will have to pay postage would definitely not recommend these cowboys”
“My order for a trio of canna lily orientalis was placed by 15th June and I was informed that delivery would be within three days. This was then changed to the middle of July. It is now the end of July and I am still waiting. According to my order record, it is scheduled for delivery on 28th February 2022! This is the most disappointing birthday present I have ever ordered.
A previous order, 26th May has still not been received.”
“Ordered hanging baskets with fuchsias in them. One arrived late, totally destroyed in transit, complained and eventually two more arrived, one unannounced. Both in the same damaged condition as the first one. Very cheap flimsy hanging baskets, plants tipped out and soil everywhere ! Cannot believe how they are still trading sending out rubbish like this. Will never buy from them again !!”
“Ordered Indian queen alstromeria 5 in number out of the 5 received two arrived with broken shoots caused by cramming them into the package the remaining three were a little better,I complained and the worst two were replaced ,these were only marginally better, all are now in compost bin what a waste of£19-99 I have had decent plants from them in the past but these are pure rubbish never again”
“If I could give zero stars I would. Sent me 13 plants of which several were dying. I planted the vaguely healthy remainder only to watch them die too (of late tomato blight as diagnosed by RHS) and infect my entire greenhouse with the loss of all my existing 20+ tomato plants. I sent T&M photos of the greenhouse devastation they caused and asked for plant and soil replacement costs of £45 (I sent a copy of the receipt for the replacements). They said they don't give compensation and offered me a £25 voucher. Never again - run don't walk in the opposite direction.”
“Unbelievably absolute rubbish service
Unbelievably absolute rubbish service,
Paid nearly £1000 for some artificial hedge rolls, and 2 weeks later it is still sitting in the couriers warehouse, call them to ask where it is and they don't eben know, No order confirmation, nor invoice or tracking numbers, I had to constantly chase to the point I gave up and asked for a refund. They don't even know what a VAT invoice or credit note is so it can be filed with accounts.”
“Waited weeks for 48 thimbles..what T&M laughingly call plugs! Do yourself a favour, stay well clear and support your local shops and nurseries instead.”
“I have been a T&M customer for many years, but things have just got worse. No delivery, yet again, ``must have got lost in transit`` and ``sorry, none left to send to you``.
I have put up in the past with less than 90% success rate, but this year, 8 days delivery time on earlier orders has ruined nearly all plug plants. Perennials ordered in January and again in May all failed to arrive. I now read in Which magazine (May 2021) that T&M fall next to bottom in customer satisfaction surveys. I just purchased plug plants from a rival firm with prompt delivery and 100% success rate.”
“The same experience as so many reviews here. Dreadful isn't the word.
Ordered the 72 perennials described as 'spectacular', plus Maxicrop treatment back in March. Delivery dates kept changing and luckily I'd taken screenshots of the mythical dates or I'd be doubting my sanity.
I've ended up buying locally to fill gaps. Plants arrived yesterday, package and plants are battered, dead or non existent. Have potted on some more in hope.
I had a great experience with Crocus last year in lockdown, kept me informed and plants flourished. This is exactly the opposite, 'spectacular'? I think not. Unless you count the spectacular disappointment/waste of money. Never again, use your bargepole at full tilt.”
“Ordered Pirennial Plugs on 13/03/21, delivery specified as end April, didnt arrive, so delivery revised to 17/05/21, didnt arrive, so contacted T & M, didnt reply until prompted, delivery revised to Mid June. Plants eventually arrived in a poor state having been in transit for a week. Order took 3 months for delivery of inferior quality plants. Never again...... wish i'd have read the reviews before ordering.”
“My personal opinion is that I wish I had read the reviews before ordering as I would not have touched this company with a barge pole as they
state blatantly unachievable timescales for delivery times on their website!
I placed my order on April 11th and my particular items were advertised as being out delivery in 3 working days, so far so good. However this is not the case as once they have your payment, they change the goal posts by saying it won’t be delivered for at least 2 weeks (or much more). When contacting customer service, you are met with a standard response:
“Unfortunately, as we are dealing with live plants delays can occur if the plant are not quite ready to be dispatched.”
This should be made clear BEFORE they take payment as they give customers false expectations and then hit them with unacceptable delays in delivery.
My order for bare root strawberry plants was delayed and came 2 weeks after the advertised delivery date. Unfortunately 4 showed signs of disease and have since died. My Calibrachoa Postiplugs did not arrive until 28th May, almost 7 weeks later.
The customer care team (via their s.media email) were actually very apologetic and did their best to try and resolve my issue and, having worked in customer service myself before, I do feel sympathy for the customer care advisors as they must be run ragged, trying to fight fires caused by T&M’s unsustainable business model. It appears that this issue is not a new one as highlighted in an consumer champion article in The Guardian in 2019.
Suffice to say that as a new customer who recently discovered T&M, I will never use this company again which is a shame for them as I am a very keen gardener who invests heavily and they will miss out on hundreds of pounds of potential future orders.”
