“Took my 1 year old JRT to the vets this morning, he had been shaking his head for a couple of days, clearly an issue with his ear, the long and the short of it is as follows, vet looked into the ear and was unable to see anything that may be causing the issue however the vet did say the ear was slightly red and so therefore prescribed some ear drops, she handed us the drops told us if no improvement in a weeks time that we should return for further evaluation, went to pay at reception, £102, I asked how much the consultation was I was informed it was £45, I questioned the cost of the ear drops at nearly £60, asked I could obtain cheaper on line, receptionist told us that we would need a prescription to buy on line, later on I googled the meds we had been prescribed only to find that they were £12,33, I thought it was excessive to charge us almost £50 more so called the vets to express my dissatisfaction, we were told that there was a dispensary charge, I asked if they were aware that new legislation meant that they had to inform us that we could obtain them cheaper, they stated that they were aware of this but we would have needed a prescription to buy on line, I asked if they could have issued us a prescription I was informed “yes but that would be an extra £20” my advice to anybody using this vet to ask the question and ensure that you are not being taken advantage of as we feel we were, needless to say we will not be taken in by them in the future!”

“The Pets at Home website is infuriatingly useless. It takes ages to order the totally overpriced dog prescription tins our dog needs and leaves you believing you haven't completed your order. They you get an e-mail saying you have. Then you go to the store and find only half the order has arrived. Their I.T. systems people need to be upgraded or sacked!”
