“I prchased Dahlia tubers from you. I have planted them in the beds and there is no sign of shoots after 2 weeks although it has been very sunny. Is this normal? Kind regards Philip Hunter Order #UK263858”

Dear Mr Hunter, Thank you for your message and for your order. Yes, it's completely normal for dahlia tubers to take a little time to sprout – even in sunny conditions. It can often take 2 to 4 weeks, depending on soil temperature and moisture levels. Dahlias prefer warm soil (above 15°C) to really get going. We recommend keeping the soil lightly moist (not too wet), and you should start seeing shoots soon. “Only one out of six bare roots have actually started to grow Unsure how long it should take for others to start showing some life Disappointed will nit use again Did refund for one bare root parcel that had no bare root in it hence the three stars”

“I ordered some bare root hostas and poppies. When they all arrived the hostas looked fine but there poppies were dreadful. There was either almost no roots or the tops were black and almost nonexistent. I planted all 6 but only one of them seems to have survived. To be fair the customer service was brilliant and they replied to my concerns quickly and dealt with the matter very well. 5 stars for service.”

“The bulbs came quickly, with a little book on how best to pot & care. I had to go for a 3 though due to on of my bulbs bags having nothing in it. Maybe check bags before sending”

“I was a little disappointed by the size and condition of the Dahlias, they looked no better than the ones you purchase from discount stores,but the varieties offered by Dutch Grown is far superior however, time will tell how well they grow on,I will update this review in the summer.”

“Was disappointed in the variability of the quality of dahlia tubers particularly the Tom Hopkins and Just Married varieties. Some had no visible stem or buds so just had to guess the orientation for planting.”

“plants, service, excellent. Well I say excellent but have to see how plants actually grow? But, delivery was terrible. You used DPD. I received msg telling me that plants being delivered the next day. However, we were off on a 3-day trip follwing day so tried to get in touch with DPD to arrange a 'safe place'. There was no method of getting in touch with them!! So what they did was leave the plants at our front door, very visible to anyone passing our house. I had to phone my sister to go to our house and pick up the plants for me. Terrib'e service by your chosen delivery company, DPD. Therefore, although the service by yourselves was very good, I won't be ordering again as the delivery lets the overall service down.”

“Of six dahlias, four looked strong and healthy and I look forward to them performing well later in the year. But two (the Pooh variety) were quite significantly damaged with more "fingers" broken off than remained attached to the main tuber. I have potted up the tubers but they are pretty thin and I'm not hopeful for vigorous plants. Disappointing as they were not cheap.”

“Customer service good, the bare root poppies I ordered were well packed. However, the quality of the plants varied. And although planted within days of arrival some look like they are not going to grow. But in fairness Papaver orientale are notoriously fickle. Healthy & alive one day and dead the next.”
