“I've been pondering what I can offer about Hammer Films that hasn't already been explored by countless fans over the years. My journey with Hammer began when I was just eight years old, and it's been a meaningful part of my life ever since—48 years and counting.
It all started with collecting film magazines and posters, immersing myself in the imagery and stories before I’d even seen a single film. My first proper Hammer experience came in 1976, when I finally saw Dracula: Prince of Darkness on BBC Two. I still remember pleading with my parents to let me stay up late to watch it. I pretended I wasn’t scared—anything to convince them I was mature enough to handle more.
The BBC horror double bills were my true gateway into the world of Hammer—and beyond. Those Saturday night screenings introduced me to a world of monsters, mystery, atmosphere and of course Peter Cushing & Christopher Lee. From that first night on, I was completely hooked. The classic Hammer films have more than just entertainment—they became a connection to my younger self, a window into the imagination and excitement of childhood. Even today, they continue to inspire the same sense of wonder.
It’s remarkable to see how these films are now being treated with the respect they’ve always deserved. With so many beautifully restored editions, and now the incredible 4K Special Editions, Hammer’s legacy is being preserved and celebrated like never before. And with new productions on the horizon, there's a renewed energy that promises to bring Hammer to both loyal fans and fresh audiences.
