“We were on one of the first tours to enter Japan after their reopening in October, 2022. Our tour was 'Ancient Trails of Japan' which we were attracted to because it promised lots of walking and hiking and a unique cultural experience. We were not disappointed. We logged 8+ miles around Tokyo on our first day! The hikes on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route were amazing! A certain level of fitness is required here as some of these trails are steep, but the views are well worth the effort. The hike between Magome and Tsumago on the Nakasendo trail was less strenuous, but still rewarding with beautiful mountain views and historically preserved towns. This was our first trip to Japan and we feel like we got a great introductory experience with a good mixture of city sights and immersion in nature and Japanese cultural history. Our guides were all extremely professional and were willing to go the extra mile to make sure we got a good experience. Our thanks to: Toshi, our tour director who was with us for the whole trip and made sure everything went smoothly; Sue, our guide for a wonderful day in Tokyo; Yoko, who guided us through an equally stunning day in Kyoto; Kazumi and Waka, our guides on the Kumano Kodo; and Uki, our guide on the Nakasendo. All of these beautiful, helpful, and knowledgeable people helped make our trip a most memorable one. I would recommend Unique Japan Tours to anyone interested in a cultural experience that will resonate for years. They are a professional and well-run organization and their people on the ground in Japan are some of the best in the business.”

“Unique Japan Tours did a DYNAMITE job with our trip to Japan, October 2022. First, they negotiated the fluid restrictions imposed by Japan government to allow tourists to visit, and us to see our daughter studying in Tokyo. Second, we were completely prepared at every juncture of our trip from arrival to departure, airport pickups, trains, hotels, baggage checks, personalized guides and right down to the correct bus/bus stop and bus queue in Hakone. Their use of Vamoos with all of our travel information was equally brilliant. Thanks so much for your genius Darina and UJT team! Couldn't recommend Unique Japan Tours enough. They are a superlative travel company.”

“The service was excellent. The staff listened to what our interests and budget were and created a truly excellent itinerary that made for an unbelievable honeymoon! One of my favourite things we did was a stay on Naoshima to visit all art galleries and contemporary art installations and exhibitions. We stayed in a beautiful hotel and rented bikes to cycle around to see all the sculptures and installations. It's something that I never would have known about had we not organised our trip through Unique Japan tours. Also the city tour guides they arranged for us in Tokyo and Kyoto (Tokyo at the last minute at that) were amazing and gave us unique insights into the city and bringing us to both the top sights and also the places that were a bit less well known.”

“We booked our honeymoon via Unique Japan Tours and I cannot recommend them enough! They tailored the trip to suit our requirements and found us some gorgeous places to stay which I very much doubt we could have found by ourselves! Everyday we were also provided with a very detailed itinerary with suggestions on places to try and step by step guidance on how to get there. It was brilliant!”

“We undertook a self guided tour of Japan with Unique Japan Tours. It was amazing. We gave them information regarding our standard hotel type as well as places we wanted to visit and some activities we would like to undertake. Everything we wanted to do was included. Everything happened exactly as it was planned and yet we had an amazing amount of freedom to do whatever we wanted, whether it was to visit the deer at Nara or the Snow Monkeys in Yamanouchi. The whole experience was so unique that it's really difficult to pick the best part. High on that list would be the Ryokan experience in all settings, Myojima island, Nara, Kyoto, walking on the Samurai trail and of course, Tokyo. We have been to many amazing places, but Japan is top of the list for a revisit if we get a chance.”

“Our first trip to Japan was with Unique Japan in Nov/Dec 2018. We did the Japan Discovered tour which we enjoyed immensely. It was a really great "reconnaisance" trip which gave us an amazing flavour of Japan and an opportunity to visit the "must see" cities and towns. While it would have been preferable to have had more time in Takayama and Kanazawa which we particularly enjoyed, the time we did spend there was sufficient to convince us that we need to revisit. Similarly, we were not able to do justice to Hiroshima, Kyoto or Tokyo and those cities also necessitate subsequent visits. Our highlights were many but included Takayama (a beautiful town with its shrine, morning market by the river and float museum), the Snow Monkey Park at Yudanaka and the Kenrokeun Garden in Kanazawa. We loved the ryokans especially the one at Yudanaka which was absolutely stunning - a great choice! The autumn colours were spectacular and we were really impressed by the Japanese people, their culture and way of life. Their refinement, politeness, courtesy and efficiency is something we could all learn from. The food is amazing and the Shinkansens - wow!! There were only 5 of us on the tour so we didn't have a tour leader but Carmel, who was a trainee with your company at that time and also on her first trip to Japan did a wonderful job managing us "oldies" and was a resourceful, gracious and engaging companion. All the local guides on our tour were great, especially "Sue" (Tsugo) who guided us in Tokyo and then in Hakone and was extremely knowledgeable, insightful and spoke excellent English. We would not hesitate to use Unique Japan Tours for any future trips to Japan. Val Swaine and Mike Harrington”

“It's impossible to choose a stand out moment from so many amazing novel experiences. The Shogun palace in Kyoto competes with the Golden Temple and the Shinto shrine not forgetting the post office tower where a group of young school boys gave us the benefit of their local knowledge and practised their language skills. The peaceful ease of Kyoto was shattered by Tokyo! Rush hour in Shinjuku station, self-service restaurants, busy markets, we felt like travellers from a different century even with the moderating effect of Senso-ji Temple. And then we went to Hakone, travelling back in time on the switchback railway, taking the cable car over the sulphur spewing volcano hoping the clouds would unveil Fuji. It was wonderful”

“This was one of my best tour groups that I have joined. The organisation was good, the leader (Yuri) was gentle and accommodating (treating each tour member individually) and efficient in her planning (we had to change the itinerary because a typhoon). It is hard to single out a particular event as the most memorable, but I loved the mountains (Takayama and Gokayama).”

“Great tour that included all the highlights of Honshu: Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, snow monkeys and Mt Fuji. Local guides were great especially in Tokyo and Kyoto. Accommodation was excellent especially the ryokan near Nagano (snow monkeys). Food was wonderful as well, a terrific holiday all round.”
