Jan 18 - 29, 2026 | Costa Rica hosts an incredible range of habitats and birds along with very good infrastructure. If you have limited time or want a shorter birding tour, this tour takes in the birding highlights of the country. At each location we find new members of these Neotropical families – tanagers, trogons, toucans, parrots, hummingbirds, and much more!

“Great tour, but could focus more on early morning and late afternoon excursions to leave mid-day open when birds are less active. This allows a little down time in the hotter temps to recharge so not exhausted when activity picks up later in day. Also maybe find more natural environments for birding rather than busy parking lots and loud commercially active areas. Costa Rica has so many parks and quiet countryside locations. Port area mangrove area with garbage everywhere was not a good place and it seems there would be other options nearby. Also sky park was a little busy and noisy with zip lines and thought La Selva time was too short…maybe better for full day excursion from Arenal on second day instead of a stop-over break between locations. Also, feeders are fine, especially at midday during lunch, but was expecting more natural settings for birding rather than touristy stops. Great examples were the short hikes through the farmland regions…not in parks, but quieter where we could see more birds. Overall was hoping for more time in forest or more natural environments. Guides were fantastic…cannot imagine anyone better to lead! Nice variety of base locations and lunch stops were perfect! Love off the beaten path areas….side roads etc.”

“Excellent trip, loads of birds. Loved the family owned organic coffee farm. The tour was perfectly laid out giving the participants a great view of the countryside without long tiring trips.”

“We loved the variety of habitats and mix of easy-to-see birds at feeders, as well as hard-to-find birds in the field. Our guides, Hector and Jody were a terrific pair, taking us to locations that were rich in birds and unique to Costa Rica. We saw many more Life birds than we expected. The Guides' connections with the local birding community was extremely helpful in giving us opportunities to see birds that we would never have gotten to see. The drive time was broken up nicely, giving us birding breaks and fabulous meals EVERY time! Our driver, Warner, was highly skilled and navigated those mountain roads with ease. We also got the benefit of a wonderful group of like-minded birders who were as excited about this trip as we were! It was a trip of a lifetime for us!”

“The Costa Rica Sampler trip far exceeded my expectations. The guides were very kind and knowledgeable and helped us see 350+ birds and other creatures. The 2 guides to 12 people ratio worked out well. Everyone got along great. The bus driver was a real pro and kept the windows spotless. The itinerary, meals and lodgings were excellent. I could have happily stayed another week at most places we visited. It was a great worry free introduction to the flora and fauna of Costa Rica and I know that I’d love to go back.”

“Another outstanding Eagle-Eye trip! Guides Hector and Jody teamed up to find us every possible bird in so many interesting locations. Loved the "sampler" part of the itinerary, as we were able to explore different habitats. I will travel with Eagle-Eye again, and hope to see Jody and Hector again.”
