Feb 23 - 27, 2026 | Southeastern Manitoba has become one of the premier locations on the continent for locating northern forest owls. The list of owls present during most winters is very impressive; Great Gray, Great Horned, Snowy and Northern Hawk-owl, with always a possibility of Eastern Screech-owl, Short-eared Owl and Northern Saw-whet Owl. Join us on a bird watching adventure as we search for these beautiful birds.

This is a birding tour that the guides (Mitch and Walker) managed quite well. Let us be clear, this is not a zoo where there is control over what will be seen or the weather conditions you will face. And it is not a photography tour as clearly stated in the tour description! You get what you get, and my wife and I felt very pleased with the outcome. I think the guides knew that it was unlikely to see a great grey owl (GGO), so Mitch may have arranged for Jim Duncan to bring his GGO Aska to see all of us. While the "tickers" could not count this is one their life list, it may have been one of the top events of the tour to learn from an expert about this special bird and to see her in person. Mitch and Walker worked so well with a group of people with clearly different levels of birding skill as well as other specific needs. While 30 species isn't a lot, we saw 4 owl species and a bunch of other birds. We will travel with Eagle Eye again, and maybe even this specific tour again:)

Thank you for your kind words—they truly mean a lot to all of us. We’re especially grateful you’d consider joining us in Manitoba again! We’re delighted to hear that Mitch and Walker helped make the experience so positive, navigating both the winter conditions and the group’s expectations with care. Seeing four owl species is fantastic, and while meeting Aska is certainly different from encountering a Great Grey Owl in the wild, we’re so glad you found it just as meaningful and memorable. It’s wonderful to know the trip came together into such a special experience for you.

As an advanced birder and photographer I was with so many that were beginner birders. I enjoyed my time in Winnipeg because I went down early and saw the ballet and went to The Forks and the Museum of Human Rights. The tour guides while very nice it was not the kind of tour for an advanced photographer. Ticking off birds that were seen that not all of us saw is not what it was all about for me. Accommodations were very nice as was the restaurants we went to. Nice to have the option to pick what we wanted to from the menu. While I know there was a lot of driving involved sometimes we were shooting out of dirty windows. It would have been great if those windows had of been cleaned everyday. I did mention it to Walker the younger guide. Tour description said we were moving to different places to stay. That did not happen which I was happy about but that should be updated in the description. We never went out at night either so bringing extra gear was not needed. I just felt tour was very rushed. Happy to spend time with 9 snowies and my highlight was seeing the adorable Saw-whet owl.

We’ll pass along your notes about keeping the van windows clean, and we appreciate that while an advanced photographer’s needs differ, we should still be able to offer the highest quality experience to all of our travellers. We will take your feedback into account as we refine the itinerary and routing, and we are thankful for your honest review as it helps us to improve our future offerings. We're thrilled that you managed to see nine Snowy-Owls, and the one little Saw-whet as well!

Great leaders. Weather really held us back too much time in the van

We’re glad to hear you found our leaders to be great, and we’re sorry the weather was less than ideal this year in Manitoba! We understand that you feel there was too much time in the vehicle, and we appreciate your feedback as it helps us implement improvements for future tours to the area.

Mitch and Walker are so excited about birding. It was infectious. They were helpful and available and flexible to our needs as a group. As a first time birder, they took special time with me to make sure that I saw everything that I could see. They were also congenial and pleasant to be around. I’m very impressed.

We’re very proud of the guides who work with us, and are pleased to know that you appreciated their professionalism, and knowledge. We understand that the birding was challenging out there this year, but are very grateful to hear that you still had an exceptional experience.

We found 2 of 7 owls advertised. Spent so many hrs driving in the van and saw very little while the guide was from the area. The tour is also at neighborhood feeders with locals coming out to yell and the groups

During your tour, the group saw three owl species (Great Horned, Northern Hawk, and Snowy Owl). Owl activity can vary greatly from year to year, and we always hope to provide the best possible experience for our guests, recognizing that sightings are never guaranteed for any species. As you may recall, we did share an advance notice that sightings of Great Gray Owls had been unusually low this season and offered guests the option to cancel without penalty and join us in a future year. Even so, we completely understand that this does not take away the disappointment of hoping to see more owls on the trip itself.

I enjoyed the tour but would have liked to see more owls … guides were amazing and very helpful. Through ice storm and snow we got birds in winter weather and I took landscapes … so enjoyed the burnt forest and long stretch by Lake Winnipeg with sun coming out briefly

Thank you for the lovely review, Linda, and what an absolutely beautiful photo! We’re so glad to hear that you enjoyed the guides and the trip overall despite icy and snowy conditions. Being a year with fewer owls present, we were happy to hear that you still managed to see Great Horned, Northern Hawk, and Snowy Owls, and that you yourself were able to also focus on your landscape photography.
