Feb 23 - 27, 2026 | Southeastern Manitoba has become one of the premier locations on the continent for locating northern forest owls. The list of owls present during most winters is very impressive; Great Gray, Great Horned, Snowy and Northern Hawk-owl, with always a possibility of Eastern Screech-owl, Short-eared Owl and Northern Saw-whet Owl. Join us on a bird watching adventure as we search for these beautiful birds.

The tour leaders (Ken de Smet and Alvin Dyck) did a wonderful job. They were very knowledgeable and helpful throughout the trip. I have never done any winter birding before and they made the tour a memorable experience. Snowy Owls, Sharp-tailed grouse on a lek and so much more. Great experience.

The guides worked tirelessly to give us owl and other bird sightings. Participants should understand that the majority of their time will be spent driving from a potential sighting area to the next - often with a good payoff! Accommodations were great as were meals and guides’ knowledge and friendliness.

Excellent guides (Ken & Alvin) who gave our small group of twelve superb opportunities to see and photograph many species. Forty-one total bird species on this particular trip with seven of those being Lifers for me. Good to excellent lodging and meals. The vans were comfortable and allowed good viewing.

This is a great tour but only if you understand that owls are hard to find. The guides worked long hours trying to find the owls. The best part of this type of trip is everything else you see. As a photographer, seeing both the male and female Pine Grosbeaks on a tree was fantastic! As the owls were hard to find this trip, the best experience was going out after dark and really listening. Ever hear the expression "the silence is deafening?" well that's what happened. A beautiful and majestic Barred owl came by and our guides were able to put a spot on it as it flew away. The fact that 8 people were willing to forgo cameras and just be totally silent was truly moving. This trip reminded me how special birds are and how to never give up looking. Alvin and Ken were awesome guides. I cannot begin to list all their qualities. I still think they have bionic eyes! Great work!
