Feb 23 - 27, 2026 | Southeastern Manitoba has become one of the premier locations on the continent for locating northern forest owls. The list of owls present during most winters is very impressive; Great Gray, Great Horned, Snowy and Northern Hawk-owl, with always a possibility of Eastern Screech-owl, Short-eared Owl and Northern Saw-whet Owl. The tour was a lot of fun and even better with amazing people I got to meet who shared my interests! Thank you to our guides who tried with all their might to find the birds we wanted to see.

An excellent tour led by friendly, extremely skilled, and knowledgeable guides. Appreciated the small group style of the tour - very relaxed. Exposed to a great many birding opportunities, with lots of time taken to view birds (not just owls). There were many hours of driving each day to find the primary owls we were seeking (Great Greys, Hawk Owls), which unfortunately, did not result in sightings, but very much appreciated the dedication of the guides to provide us with the best opportunities. Good accommodations.

We saw five different species of owls, which were the focus of the trip, but the Sharp-tailed Grouse were also a special treat -- to watch them do their courtship displaying in a snow-covered field from the comfort of the van in the early morning light was one of the highlights of the trip. The guides were consistently helpful as I navigated the van, the snowy and icy roads, and the various long hallways in hotels with my recently-acquired cane.

We were very well looked after and chauffeured from spot to spot in two very comfortable vans with plenty of room for gear. I was thrilled to see all four of my target owls - I would have been happy with just two! We got great views of Great Gray, Northern Hawk, Snowy, Eastern Screech and Great Horned Owls. There were so many Snowy Owls that we almost lost count. Other highlights were dancing Sharp-tailed Grouse, hordes of Redpolls and several White-tailed Jackrabbits. Rudolf and Ken are great and really know their home turf.
