The Littmann CORE Digital Stethoscope has allowed me to hear faint cardiac murmurs and heart sounds that I could have had the potential to miss. It has allowed me to listen to unclear crackles in patients with acute heart failure. This has guaranteed that my patients are not receiving subpar care from their cardiovascular provider. With the recording capabilities of the Littmann CORE and Eko App, it has also allowed me to record murmurs and heart sounds on my cell phone and permitted me to acquire a second opinion from my supervising physicians if I am unsure of what I am listening to. The recordings also allow me to review murmurs to make sure when I encounter them again, I know what I am listening to as well as formulate the appropriate plan of care for my patients based on my physical exam. The noise cancellation capacity of the Littmann CORE has given me the skill to hear indistinct murmurs/heart sounds in a boisterous environment that is the hospital systems I round for. Auscultation is, if not, the most fundamental part of a cardiology provider's physical exam. Undoubtedly, the Littmann CORE has given me the confidence to perfect my auscultation skills, especially at a time where I have been transitioning from a recent graduate to a practicing clinician.

For me, auscultation at bedside has always been a challenge with hearing loss. Before trying the Littmann CORE Digital Stethoscope, I often would have to double or even triple check my findings, at times causing a delay in crucial care. The technology encompassed in the Littmann CORE has drastically changed my routine. Being able to isolate adventitious lung sounds and hear those rhythm abnormalities loud and clear has boosted both my productivity and confidence in my assessments. The ability to pair this device with my smartphone via the Eko App and review my findings with peers has hands down been the most game-changing feature next to the active noise cancellation, forever changing how I collaborate with clinicians and other providers. As a Med/Surg nurse, the ability to eliminate outside noise with the active noise cancellation has also been routine changing. No more loud alarms, visitor conversations or TVs causing interference. What you hear is your patient, and that’s it.

I am a registered nurse on a Medical ICU COVID-19 designated unit. When I started on the unit, I used a Littmann Cardiology IV analog stethoscope and found I was having a really hard time auscultating during patient assessments because of the noise my PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator). I was spending a lot of time trying to auscultate in order to have the best assessment possible. With critical COVID-19 patients accurate and timely assessments are essential in reaching the best patient outcomes and my Littmann alone was not cutting it. I was able to try the Littmann CORE Digital Stethoscope and it has been one been one of my best experiences to date because Littmann with the Eko CORE paired together has greatly improved my ability to assess patients. The Littmann CORE has the ability to amplify sound up to seven levels which works great for high noise environments. One of the features I really appreciate is the Littmann CORE’s ability to shut itself off if I leave it on. I only charge it once a week after working three to four shifts. I have used the Littmann CORE combination for every assessment and it has not let me down. To me, this is an essential tool for my fast-paced critical care environment.

I’m in semester 3 out of 4 and have been using my Eko CORE attachment with my Littmann since my first day of clinicals. Back then, it was only the 1st generation Eko attachment and I could say that since then my experience in clinicals have always been outstanding. I was able to learn more with the device, record the lung and heart sounds on both adults and Peds with the attachment. Now that I have tried the Littmann CORE Digital Stethoscope, having the active noise cancellation has made it more peaceful for me to focus on my auscultations along with how lighter it is compared to the first version. I remember as if it was yesterday, my first day of orientation asking my professor if I was able to use a digital stethoscope on my stethoscope for amplified auscultations. Her response to that was “I’m going to have you demonstrate you hearing an apical pulse.” I’ve kept that in mind and on my first clinical rotation to geriatrics, I had a very kind man who gave me permission to record his apical pulse with the Eko App. To build a relationship with that patient, I had him hear his heart recordings on the Eko App, never has he heard it so clear and loud. I told my professor, and had her hear the recording for herself and she was highly impressed. Eko has made my clinical life easy. So easy that even in events where I can’t recognize what I am auscultating, I record it on the Eko App and study it. Whether it is heart sounds, lung sounds or bowel sounds. It does the work efficiently and I WILL NEVER use another stethoscope without an Eko CORE on it.

The first time I rounded on patients with my Littmann CORE Digital Stethoscope I was pleasantly surprised as I could hear so well I had to double take when I listened to the heart and lungs of my first patient of the day. I was astonished that I could hear and differentiate subtle lung sounds without asking patients to take a deep breath. Now after using it daily for the past six months, this level of quality has become my new normal and anything else just sounds dull. It has made a huge difference in my patient encounters during my residency training and it has made me so much more confident as a provider. As a resident physician training in family medicine, I see a mix of adult and pediatric patients, from night shifts in the emergency department, afternoons in our outpatient clinic, to weekends covering athletic events on the sports medicine service. Working in varying triage environments, the reduced contact aspect of this pairing has been a centerpiece for me, particularly the ability to detach my CORE and place it in a zip-lock bag for easy disinfection without the worry of harm to my CORE. It has paired with my work iPhone and personal Samsung galaxy note, which I frequently interchange without any difficulty. The battery life is better than exceptional as well. I am typically able to use it for a little more than 2 weeks on a single charge. This Littmann CORE has also proven handy when students rotate on service with me as they have enjoyed being able to listen to and appreciate critical examination findings in a patient room using Bluetooth headphones or later during brief teaching discussions in our workroom. I as well appreciate being able to record odd findings that I can easily send to a colleague when I need an OnDemand second opinion. And working in the community as a Family Medicine physician, using the Littmann CORE has also proven to be a unique tool that allows me to provide my patients the opportunity to hear and better understand findings that simply can’t be appreciated in conversation alone. This match between Littmann and Eko is perfection! The best of both worlds offering analog and digital capabilities with amazing sound quality that has exceeded my expectations. Together they are comfortable and lite enough to carry around my neck or in my pocket, yet still discreet enough that it does not look out of place. If you are debating between this pairing and a less expensive stethoscope don’t, it’s totally worth the purchase and you’ll be doing your patients and yourself a service being able to hear clearly get a better initial impression when examining patients.

I've always been passionate about cardiac care as I worked as a Cardiovascular ICU RN. When I became a Nurse Practitioner, it was only natural for me to transition into a Cardiology NP role. I tried the Littmann CORE Digital Stethoscope to improve my auscultation of cardiac murmurs. I do admit there was a bit of a learning curve -- I had to retrain my ears to be attuned to the assistance of the CORE, but once I did, it became incredibly easy to auscultate heart sounds. I was able to hear everything much clearer and with higher sensitivity. The noise cancelling effects are particularly helpful in a noisy emergency room. Most importantly, the Littmann CORE itself has withstood the demand of being constantly cleaned with disinfectant wipes. The buttons for volume up/down and record are easy to access without getting in the way. The power button clicks on/off, and thankfully with an auto-off feature! Battery life on the CORE is great and I only have to charge it approximately once a month. The associated Eko App is clean and easy to use. It boasts multiple functionalities including changing the recording length, audio filter to focus on cardiac vs pulmonary, playback options, background connection time to save battery life, and livestream. There is even an option to password protect the app for an extra layer of security. I found the ability to record auscultations and mark anatomical location particularly useful in the event that the sounds need to be reviewed with the attending Cardiologist, or even in an educational situation to play back for the patient. I was able to try out the livestream option during the COVID-19 pandemic - a link can be sent to another person to listen in real time! I found it really neat for learning purposes but I didn't think it was something I personally needed on a day-to-day basis. With COVID-19 patients, I found the ability to unscrew the stethoscope tubing from the CORE and use the CORE plus the Littmann bell in an isolation room to be incredible. The sounds transmit through Bluetooth to the Eko app and can be heard by speakerphone or my headphones. This has been incredibly helpful in use with high-risk COVID-19 patients. The Littmann CORE Digital Stethoscope has unprecedented quality in aiding my auscultation, specifically with heart sounds. This combination has increased my workflow and I feel more confident in my assessment of the patient.

Absolutely love the Littmann CORE Digital Stethoscope! I’m an Emergency Medicine/Urgent Care Physician Assistant, working in an often busy, noisy setting—think multiple beeping monitors, codes, yelling, you name it. Being able to properly listen and hear, even the faintest of sounds when auscultating makes all the difference in my practice and management of patients. With COVID19, we saw the implementation of triage tents, isolation floors and tents, and car visits. Conducting physical exams outside our facilities meant having to listen for crucial sounds in the midst of Los Angeles traffic and surrounding noise. Trust me, it is not easy. Once I tried the Littmann CORE Digital Stethoscope, it was a game-changer. The noise canceling and sound amplification properties are truly ingenious. Besides this, the Eko App allows me to use my stethoscope wirelessly through Bluetooth connection, which keeps me at a safe distance when treating and managing COVID19 cases. I cannot thank Eko and Littmann enough for creating such great instruments and for keeping me and my patients safe during COVID19. Much love!
